Just curious if anyone has ever removed thier A/C. I live in Wisconsin and the most i ever use air in any of my cars is 1-2 times tops. I noticed the compressor is on its own belt so it shouldnt be too hard other than getting the compressor itself out. I have a recovery machine here at work so i can keep all the refrigerant if i ever have to put the A/C back in. Also i think it would be nice to lose the weight and clean up the engine bay a little. Any suggestions? Not sure if its gonna be worth the work but its just dead weight to me. Any info appreciated

That's interesting. I just wonder if it'll set off bells and whistles through one of the computers/and or sensors? Good quesion. BTW, have you check the weights, measurements sticky above? I wonder if it's in there? Good question.

I just can't imagine even having a thought of removing the a/c. It is not only for cooling the air, but also for defrosting/defogging and taking humidity out of the inside air. I have used mine numerous times in the winter with the temp set at 75.
definately dont drive my car past october so it doesnt see any cold weather. As far as the CEL's, i thought about that too. I was thinking if it did throw a code that i could possibly get it turned off along with my egr codes when i get the car tuned. Not sure though
Have you ever noticed how often the AC comes on when you just want air??? It's programmed to keep the humidity down inside the car and keep the windows from fogging up. If you disable it you will very likely have problems with windows fogging!
my fan switch has been out of the "off" position maybe once. I only drive the car on nice days. If i cant take the top off i rarely drive the car. I like to keep the mileage down and i ride a motorcycle most the time to save gas money
if i ever sold the car i would re-install the A/C thats why i would recover the refrigerent into my own bottle. And its not a full time race car i just thought it would be nice to clean up the engine bay and save a little weight at the same time. I plan on showing the car so the over all look of the engine bay is very important to me
I think the logic is good but the cons far outweigh the benefits. You'd be opening up a can of worms on CELs, breaking stuff to get it out/put it back in, the defroster issues, etc. If you want to save a few pounds, get a Ti exhaust, tear out some carpet and insulation, and maybe join a gym.
i think you may be right. Just thought i would research it a little. But i think the CEL situation will keep me from doin it. Thanks for the help everyone
