A4 Shift **** Replacement
Has anyone replaced the shift **** on their A4? If so, would you please send me instructions/pictures on how to get the original one off? The sheet I received from the vendor is difficult to read and doesn't make a lot of sense.
I did it, but I don't recall the exact steps. It was not a problem. Instructions are in the Tech Tips. Look at the top of the page - click on Other. Click on C5.
I had the A4 adapter kit so I could install **** made for standard shift cars. Instructions for that came with the ****.

I looked in the Tech Tips section, but the article there was for a manual shift **** replacement. Thanks for replying, though.
Sorry I mis-directed you. There is a retainer 'pin' at the bottom front of the ****. I pried that out with a thin screwdriver. I think the **** just unscrewed after that, but maybe someone with more functioning brain cells will respond.

It's actually realllly easy.
Just look at the ****, the face between the **** and the HVAC. You'll see a horizontal metal piece. That's a giant staple ... pry it out with a small (very small) plathead screw driver. The **** pops right off.
This company also sells the adapter. If you happen to like translucent colors, check out www.conceptualpolymer.com
The locking collar is not required, but a slightly different thread and counterbore depth is required and available at no extra cost.
I thought I saw a nice aluminum handle with STu'sVette on it I liked...but $135.00 is a bit much for me right now. I am mod broke........YES AGAIN as I answered my wife too!
I have tried several ***** for my A4 and haven't liked any of them. I don't want it higher than what it is either! Someone needs to make a stylish **** that fits without adaptors!!

Thanks.
Just like a few of the members here said. Put your key in the ignition, put it on start but don't start it, this way you can move your shifter from P all the way to D and look at the bottom part of the front part of the shift ****. Like the others said, you will notice a small metal piece which you could pry out with a small and I mean use a small flathead screwdriver and carefully pry it out, once you pry part of it, instead of pushing it out with a bigger flathead, use long nose pliers, reason for this is sometimes if you just use a bigger flathead after prying part of it out, it jumps out and you may lose the small staple like metal clip. All in all, it just takes about 5 mins of your time. Hope this helps.
