am thinking about ditching the run-flats and need your input!! ive heard the ride as tons smooother and was wondering which tires to look into/ steer clear of! thanks--
Steer clear of anything that's a runflat.
Personally, I have some great tires, check out tirerack.com, they have all the comparisons and reviews of every tire.
I love my Pirelli's PZero Nero for my stock rims and didn't cost an arm and a leg.
They are smoother/softer ride, less noise, and handle great, not to mention I've already got 17,000 miles on them and they don't even look but less then 1/3 worn down.
You are going to get alot of opinions on the best brand as this forum has the best informed consumers this automotive professional has ever seen. For stock sizes I recommend to my dealers:
Goodyear Eagle GS-D3: very high marks in all weather conditions, extremely durable, lower noise, nicer ride, but can still give very aggressive steering response.
Toyo T1S: great ride, very quiet, good workmanship and material, nice performance for the price. Adequate steering response.
Pirelli Assymetico / P-Zero: Firm ride, good steering resonse, good uniformity.
What ever brand you finally choose, make sure you support your Local tire dealer.

100% These tires are amazing in that they are not only sticky in dry AND wet, but they also wear very well (last a long time) AND are made right here in the USA for a great price - highly recommended!
That's what I've got. They come highly recommended. I've got MAYBE 3,500 miles on them (to be on the safe side, I always say 5K) and my rears are absolutely SHOT. Okay, I've done a few burnouts - but very, very few. I mean less than 5... and not very impressive ones at that.
I will tell you this, if you ditch the runflats (sorry to be so redundant, folks, with my warnings about this): Have the sensors replaced... do not go without them. The DIC messages will drive you absolutely MAD, in more ways than one. If you don't have the sensors reinstalled, you will need to have someone do an edit on your computer. I wish someone would've given me that tidbit of advice before I changed mine out.
For me, I like the safety and convenience of run-flats. I had a bad experience on the interstate with a flat in the middle of the night one time, so needless to say, I'm sticking with RFs. When I get my new wheels, I'm going to put the new GY supercar run-flats from the C6 on them. I hear there is a great improvement over the C5 version.
