Should awards be based on just cleanliness? And if so, why not have categories based on mileage with each (i.e. 0-4999, 5000-9999) I've seen completely stock cars/vettes, 1-2 yrs old with less than 4-500 miles top winning when there were actually better ones with more miles that accordingly would have more dust/dirt stuck up in some corner that can't be reached. Maybe they should have categories for daily-drivers etc. For those that don't really drive their cars, should'nt they be judged against each other?
Most local shows that we attend are judged that way. Our 2004Coupe has 16,500 miles and is cleaner than some with little or no miles. Just takes extra work to remain competitive.

I agree. It depends on what kind of show it is, judged or participant judging. Unfornuately, participant many times turns into a popularity contest. I've been to many shows like that. I've got 42k on mine and many times I'm going against trailor queens with very little miles. Doesn't seem fair so thats why I mainly do judged shows now.
The car shows that we attend are people choice shows .
thats about all we have around my area.
Vettes are voted on by model year C1 thur C6.

I try to go to the shows that break the classes down into more reasonable time periods - that is, maybe 53-62, 63-67, etc. That way you are kind of comparing apples to apples and give everyone a decent chance to do well. While there is no substitute for really preparing the car for the show, you are right in that the older the car, the harder it is to keep it in dirt free and pristine condition.
The main thing to keep in mind about shows though is it is supposed to be fun - great chance to meet new friends and talk cars.
Forget the shows and go on runs, I bought my Vette to drive and not to clean all week. If I go to a show it is usually a fun show or for charity and I go with zero expectations. Some owners got their Vette to wax, look at and collect trophies, you can't compete with the time they put in, and the politics of judged shows.

Go to shows to have fun and meet great people!! Forget about winning. If you want a trophy just go buy one!! Once you have one you decide it's not that big a deal!! Enjoy your car and the experience of owning it!!
go to the shows and have fun and you will meet other owners
and do not worry about judging because most of the time
it is very political or who details the car better.
, their are many times the car that should win never places.
just go and have fun and you will meet some great people.
stay away from any show's unless you want every idiot with there minivan load of kids touching, dripping ice cream and just getting way to close and personal with your vette

I guess I should have talked to you before I won my 55 trophies.
I'm with the majority here. Go first to have fun, meet people and look at
the vehicles. Part of the fun for me is to spend 4 or 5 hours getting the
vette ready for the show. Even though I have an 04 I still clean every
crook and cranny I can reach! But if it bothers you, seek out the shows
broke down by year range/class. It does help level the playing field!
Shows can be fun or a pain in the arsssss, its up to you ..........
Have some fun, just don't take them personal
I thought I was having fun at shows but the agony of watching people getting touchy feely with my vette just wasn't worth it for me just to get another trophy that gathers dust in the house so it's just and enjoy for me now

Our corvette club just had a show about a month and i was one of the judges.here are a few things they look for.check antenna for dirt, around mirrors, around name plates, wheelwells, undercarriage, also interior of cars make sure it is clean inside ,.and of course the outside of the car on how clean it is.These are some of the things we had to do.They were a few other things which did not make much sense to me but i went along with their instructions.
