We had to have a vette towed off that had been stolen and was left in front of my old place of business. We called the police and they dispatched a flatbed. The first big problem was the car was locked. Then the horror began..
The tow truck operator hooked the front up to the winch and started dragging it like a stubborn mule onto the flatbed. He drug it up to about the back wheels and the tailpipes started dragging, so he tilted the bed up and picked the car up before the back wheels were on the flatbed.
So picture this... The car is halfway on the flatbed with the back wheels hanging off The back wheels are still locked mind you and hanging in the air. The winch began to strain when he tried to get the back wheels over the lip on the flatbed.
Well it finally popped onto the bed.
I can only imagine the damage. The tow truck operator probably did more damage than the thief who took it for a joy ride.
So don't think just because the guy knows how to drive a tow truck he knows how to use it.
