Just sitting here reading posts about moding exhaust, cams, etc.. and thinking, i wonder if 10 years from now will Corvettes be built with hybrid engines or even all electric like some of these new cars. What do you think? Would you buy one that has an all electric engine if it put out 500+ HP? I find it hard to answer yes to that question because part of the corvette experience is the smell of fuel and the roar of the exhaust. Any opinions?
Lexus will soon be coming out with a 600h hybrid luxury sedan that will crank out 500 HP and get double the mileage a comparably-priced Mercedes or BMW will get. Our 400h cranks out 650 lbs-ft of torque to all four wheels and averages 25-27 MPG. It's fun watching the kilowatt boost gage when accelerating (0-60 in 6.9 seconds)......not bad for a 4500-lb SUV!
Ideally a Corvette hybrid would be mroe fuel efficient without any sacrifice in performance, features and looks.
Smell and sound of the exhaust is irrelevant - as long as I can continue to smoke (er ... accelerate faster than) other cars. Hybrids are quiter, more fuel efficient, and there's that tax incentive as well.
If I see two identical looking Vettes on a showroom floor, and one's a hybrid with the same (or slightly less) performance - I'd go with the hybrid.

We'll see about the tax advantage when our state (WA) starts whining that they are not getting enough revenues from the GAS TAX because more people are driving hybrids. They will come after you to make up the difference and we'll all have to pay more. They are even doing a study to tax us BY THE MILE, using 500 cars on a pilot program in King Co. Enjoy.
10 years from now cars will have scan bars on the bottom (like UPC codes) and the roads will have scanners. When you excede the speed limit your car will be fined. This will destroy the market for performance cars.

Sad but true........
Can I ask where you got that information? That really sucks. Do you have a link?

Maybe you didn't know but, there are electric dragsters. The problem is the batteries are heavy and only good for one drag run. But the electric motors are very fast. You don't need high HP to get faster 0 to 60 times, with electric motors.

It will be by radio telemetry with all speed records and GPS co-ordinates/route traveled....NO SECRETS at all, and the systems are now in place in some locations. England is considering this system for all cars, tax by the mile, and Citations for every Law violated all automatically! BIG BROTHER IS HERE AND NOW, Welcome to the post "1984" - "Brave New World".
