I have an employee that drives a Mercedes SLK and I can put mine down quicker than he can and I still have a trunk when it's down. Not to mention the extra 100-150 lbs of weight.
Have to say that I was disappointed when I first got the Vert that it didn't come with a power roof. But the manual system is so easy and quick to operate, plus the fact that there's nothing to go wrong, that I really don't miss it. JMHO.

I have had to explain that to several of my fellow employees. They are always saying "a $50,000 car without a power top!". It's a SPORTS CAR not a crappy import or your luxury sedan.
The great thing about the power top on my last Vert was that I could put the top up and down at a stop light without getting out of the car. I don't see anyway to get the vette's top up or down without getting out of the car.

I could say the same about my Coupe - or is that "Spyder" (in Euro speak??)
Why doesn't the Coupe come with a power sliding top???
It is so easy and fast to drop the top that I really don't care that it is not power. I guess a lot of people do so they offered it in th C6. Yet is is still an option, so not everyone must care

I can put my car in neutral, pull the E brake, unlatch the two front latches, step out, lift the lid, and stow my C5s top, get back in and buckle up faster than our Sebrings top can go down. I did see one guy at Carlisle do it from inside but I think it took longer than the getting out method.
For some reason that I can't understand, GM didn't outfit the C5 verts with power tops. Is there an aftermarket conversion to a power top?

Yes it might have made for a good option too some. But would be much slower to drop than the manual top.
I was looking for a power soft top convertion kit as well. So I could add a rain sensor to close & lock the top. I only found one company & it's only for a hard top convertion.
have you been reading all the horror stories over in the C6 Forum about the problems with the PT? Thank your stars they didn't offer this for the C5. Would mean more trips to the Dealer who don't knoe how to fix it anyway.
Weight and space but mostly weight. I can drop the top at a red light and have done so a few times. Takes 15 seconds. If I'm just parking and know that I'll drop it when I leave, I only do the driver's side latch. Get a Window Valet and it's even easier. You don't have to leave the ignition on so you can close the windows. Top up - one latch - Window Valet -DONE!
