About to bite the bullet on this system. Had a LS1 edit done a few months ago and was very pleased with the results.
What will the headers, hi flow cats, x-pipe do to the edit? Will the HP increase from the system be as good as if it was stock? Do I need to spend the money for another edit for maximum results?
Anyone with actual experience with this.
Adding the headers will do nothing to the tune itself. However, the long tube headers will alter your air/fuel ratio. My car was tuned at 13:1 afr before headers. After I added the dynatechs it dropped to 11.4:1. The PCM will compensate by adding more fuel because of the freer flowing exhaust. Yes, you will need another tune to maximize results. But, tuners generally only charge for dyno time once you have an initial tune. My place charge $125 for a re-tune. I have a 2000 A4. Fully tuned I dynoed at 325rwhp 334rwtq with catback, dynatech headers, and blackwing intake. Depending on whether you have a six speed or auto you will dyno perhaps 5-10rwhp more than this. Also if you have an LS6 intake manifold (which I do not) you will dyno higher. Dont expect huge gains from the tune because your car was fully tuned prior to the headers. I only gained 9rwhp and 17rwtq with a tune from the headers, but my results are a little atypical.
Thanks for the response. I have an 04 MN6 and after the LS 1 edit, it dynoed 313RWHP and 330RWTQ. Was ok with that.
What can I expect with the Dynatech system leaving the tune as is?
Thanks again.

I agree - a new tune would be in order to adjust the A/F ratio after installing the headers. Good luck with the system - I eventually want to get a set of these.

You really cant get a definite answer to that question. Personally, I gained only 1rwhp and 9rwtq, but I have seen others that have gained close to 25rwhp without the tune. You will certainly gain something, but the afr will be running pretty rich and leaving a good amount of hp on the table. But, we are just talking about peak hp numbers, which are not the most important thing. Usable hp under the curve is what you should really focus on.
Being an old drag racer, the first thing we always changed were the headers. Of course that was well before computers controlled engine function. Kind of surprised at your very small gains though. Anything that makes an engine breath better, should be good for HP.
Was kinda hoping for at least 15-20 just from the headers, cats, etc. and more with an updated tune.
Am I missing something here?
I just had Dynatech's and a Vararam installed yesterday. My initial numbers were 305 rwhp and 328 rwtq on the stock tune with an approx. 12:1 AFR. After the install I got to 325 rwhp and 329 rwtq with an AFR of 14:1. Pretty lean! I'm will be getting it tuned next Tuesday. I'm hoping for another 5 rwhp after the tune. This is on an '04 MN6 Coupe with GHL Bullets.
I think in your case you might gain a few more HP with the headers, but it will require another tune as mentioned above.
Icemanskis and I seem to have very comparible numbers, so you will probably see something in that range as well
I'm confused. Icemanskis AFR went down and yours went up, if I'm reading it right. Seems the motor would want to lean out due to the better flow capabilities. How much will the computer compensate a lean condition, if in fact that's what will occur?
Sorry don't mean to
