I have the steering wheel decal from Decal Specialties. It's a full logo decal and covers the entire area and not just the flags. It goes on easy and when you heat it with the hair dryer it molds down over the raised parts of the flag. It looks great. I get a lot of compliments on it.
Does Decal Specialities have a web site?
FYI ... Just ordered one from Corvette America. It's not what they depicted in their catalog (flags only, C5 ring is missing) and it doesn't look like it will hold up.
I got mine from Ken at VE. It stuck well and looks great.
With the Vegas heat though, it's starting to go brittle. The pieces at the bottom of the logo have broken off. No criticism of the product.
Anyone know of a more substantial product, maybe made of light metal?
They look great, but I think the problem is that you’ll have a C5 emblem embedded in your forehead if the steering wheel air bag goes off in a collision.
Reading this thread, I had the same concern. The C6 has a similar type emblem in the center of the driver's air bag. While at Vettes on the Rockies last year, Dave Hill and Harlan Charles were there showing off the new car. I asked Dave about the emblem, and what might happen to the driver should the air bag deploy.
He started with the famous "Dave Hill smile, and pause", usually meaning he was hoping someone would ask that question? Apparently GM had similar concerns and spent quite a bit on testing it under various emvironmental conditions. It's designed to separate in the middle while each side remains attached to the air bag cover, blowing away from the driver. It passed all the tests, but don't think the aftermarket emblems have been designed like this, nor have they been through this extensive testing!
I'v tried a few but can't get them to release from the backing paper and stick to the wheel. I did all the surface preparation including a good cleaning with alcohol. She just won't stick. Any suggestions?
To separate the decal from the paper backing, I just bend and fold back the paper backing near the corners of one of the crossed flags and it peeled right off (do not touch the adhesive on the back). I hope you used denatured alcohol (not rubbing alcohol). Rubbing alcohol has an oil mixed in with it.
Got my steering wheel decal and airbag decal from cyberdine graphics today. The brushed silver ones look great. Good quality and should almost match the quick silver exterior.

Thanks!
I don't have the web site, but if you go into EBay Motors and search for C5 Corvette Decals you'll find them. I was very happy with the service and the decal was easy to put on and looks great! I'd post a picture if I knew how!
Every modern car, Porsche, Toyota etc. Has emblems on the steering wheel air bag cover, apparently without problems. In slow mo air bag deployment pictures that I have seen, the cover swings up and out of the way so that the emblem does not come near you.
That's because the factory emblems are part of the steering wheel cover and are designed to split in half when the air bag deploys. He's talking about adding an after market hard plastic emblem to the center of the steering wheel. Where do you think that emblem is going to go when the air bag deploys? Right in your face I'll bet.

This emblem is less than a 1/8th of an inch thick in the middle. It is not hard plastic. It is similar to the polyurathane letters that you put on the outside or you car on the rear and front. The difference is that it is alot thinner and more flexable. I put it on today looks great. I had a little problem with the air bag letters. Im going to use a little super glue on the ones that did not stick properly tommarrow. I will post some pictures.

If anyone has seen a reflective one piece - colored - raised plastic type of emblem for the center of the steering wheel, can you pass along where you saw / purchased it. I have seen the decal type in Mid America and Ecklers but I cannot locate the this type of emblem anywhere.
