Just bought my dream car a 00 pewter vette. wanted some advise on where to begin with mods. A friend of a friend owns a tire shop and wants me to buy rims & tires from him so he can use pix of my car for advertising. wanted to know what size to go with (bigger/same size)?
Also where's the best place to start for more horses. The only mod the car hsd is corsa exhaust. But the most important question is for those who are married, do you spend $ first then deal with wrath later or do you butter her up first then ask for permission to spend spend spend. Thanks in advance for any advise. Mark
Go for the intake coolant bypass kit. It's 10 bucks on fleebay and supposed to add 6rwhp. (Can't confirm, but it seems like a good idea to not add heat to the intake) The old lady can't complain about 10 bucks!
With regards to new wheels, you can pretty much do whatever you want. Some go with same sizes at all corners (usually 18s) or keep it the same ratio (18s front, 19s back, etc)
For more performance heads and cam are usually the first step, as intake/exhaust doesn't really result in much (you already have Corsas anyway).
this vette is my first aswell...i started modding this year... for the first little while your just too excited with it being stock...then after a while you need mods good luck with it and welcome to the forum

Congrats on the first Vette and welcome to the forum. I've got the stock sized 17/18 wheels on my car, but went with the wider Z06 size wheels and tires. Many here have gone with 18" wheels all the way around and some opt for the 18" front/19" rear combination. Just depends on the style of wheel and look you are going for.
My first mod was to install the CAGS eliminator, which if you have a 6 speed will allow you to shift through the gears at any speed without the computer forcing you into the 1-4 shift pattern under certain conditions. I would seriously consider getting a column lock bypass and installing it - save a lot of headaches later on.
A good air intake (Blackwing or Halltech Stinger) is a good choice. Then you could move on to headers, heads/cam, rear gears, etc. The choices are many (and sometimes expensive).
As for how to deal with your wife and the topic of mods, I'm not going to touch that one. Every situation is different and you have to figure that one out.
Congrat on the ride and welcome. If your buddy want to give you a deal on tires and wheels by all means go for it! You'll finds lots of advice here on alternatives.
IMO first performance mods should be airbox, headers, hi-flow cats with x-pipe and LS1 edit/dyno tune to optimize the mods.
Never ask for permission to do mods, ask for forgivness only if you're found out!

Generally the first mods are better breathing and exhaust. You already have the exhaust. I agree with JD - Blackwing or Halltech are good choices.
Wheels - too many choices to even suggest anything. Look at a bunch of photos here on the forum and decide what you like. So a search on New Wheels in C5 General and you'll see a virtual catalog of different options.
As far as your wife is concerned, I can tell you what helped me - I got her involved. she goes with me on cruises, shows and social events. I bought her a C5 hat and a jacket and make sure I consult her for her opinion when I want to buy some of the bigger things. She now considers the car hers too. She has no interest in driving it or detailing it, but she sure likes riding in it and hanging out!
If you're new to Vettes you'll discover that one of the best things about being a member of the Vette Fraternity is the people that you'll meet. Your wife will meet some of the nicest and friendliest people on the planet, and before you know it - she'll be hooked!
Welcome to the Forum and miles and miles of smiles to you and your wife!
