Just returned from a 5-day roundtrip between NY and Virginia Beach. Here's some impressions and stats:
1. My wife only breifly handled my 2000 coupe prior to this trip and basically had no real interest in driving it. But she got to really feel it out for several hours on this trip and I think she truly enjoyed it. It was fun for me to see her driving it so well and getting into it.
2. The car swallowed up two weeks worth of soft-sided luggage for our four-night trip. I could have packed for a month and had no problem. It's unbelievable how much that hatchback will store without even trying.
3. The seats were incredibly comfortable (I have sport seats) and the car felt super roomy. We weren't fatigued by the drive at all, in fact it was very refreshing.
4. Try as I might, I couldn't coax the mileage on the highway over 28.9, but that's where it ended up on the first run from NY to VA. The overall run both ways resulted in 27.6 mpg but that included some local VA driving and a mess of stop and go traffic on the way home. Still better than my 6-cyl Bonneville.
5. The car didn't even burp on the overall 800 mile trip. The only thing of curiosity is that, well into the trip home with AC blasting and hours running at 70 mph, I was sitting shot-gun and felt a couple of drips onto my feet from the top of the passenger footwell .. I'm assuming it's AC water but don't know why, any thoughts?
6. I knew I loved this car, but I'm more impressed now than ever.
Doesn't it travel well? I put 6k on my C5 in 5 weeks. Going from Detroit to NC and back 2x then going to BG and back. I wish I were lucky enough to drive it to work.
Sounds like you had a great trip! Reference to your question about the water driping on the passenger side - its probably condensation from the AC. I'm told there are "utter" type drains on the firewall that can get clogged with debris. You might want to clean these out and see if that helps. I'm sure someone here can give you specific help with locating these drains and how to clean them out.
Great cars aren't they!

Thanks for the tip about the utter drains. Anybody have more info on how to clean 'em?
Really can't say enough about how comfortable the car was on a long trip. We really weren't sure what to expect, but at this point I'd rather take the Vette than any of my other sedans.
Back in Aug. 2001 (just before 9-1-1 attack) my wife and I took a 2.5 week trip from Alabama out through the western states and back home for about 7,100 miles in all. We found it to be a very comfortable car for touring in and had plenty of room for two on a trip of this length. We carried a large cooler also and ate out of it usually two times a day. Had no problems and it averaged over 30 mpg for the trip. Here is a link to my web page and if you click on "Western Trip" at the top of the home page, you will go to an article about that trip. http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-larrysweb
We did a 5025 mi trip on the Hot Rod Power Tour last month. Story was similar. Wife had only driven the Vette twice in 2 yrs and did about 1/3 of the driving. We packed two weeks of luggage in the trunk of a vert. Yeah, it was tight but it can be done. Best I got was just shy of 26 mpg but I've got the 3:15's and being used to 75 mph speed limits I rarily got it under 85 mph. Contrary to what seems to be common belief the Vette is a great roadtrip vehicle.
My wife and I take several road trips a year and we too have found our C5 vert to be a very nice road car. Good to hear you had a safe and enjoyable trip.
Next Thursday 7/8 I leave at dawn-thirty for Seattle from Dallas. From Seattle I'll be travelling to the Bay area to attend the ALMS qualifying at Sears Point thanks to forum member napacruzerc5. Planning to take various 'twisties' side routes recommended by several other Pacific region forum members. Then back to DFW via the southern route.
I plan to be gone 14 days.
This will be in a vert, so space is going to be an issue. Glad to hear there are some others that do long hauls.
I agree with all of the above. Just returned, today, from a 3 week trip to St. Louis (on business) and a side trip to BG, did the plant tour and NCM, and back to Carrollton, Tx total miles was 1998 and I felt better on this trip than a similar trip in my Tahoe. Average mpg was 29.6, what car can you drive that gets this kind of gas mileage and has the WOW factor...Corvette.
You can best access the udder from underneath the car. It's on the passenger's side fire wall be the header and the fire wall. Give it a squeeze and if it's clogged it will empty out. You should also check the computer under the passenger's foot well carpet. Many have had this computer ruined from this water getting into it. If you've caught it in time that's great. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna bring it to a Corvette Shop that obviously specializes in Vettes to have it looked at next week. Just in case he's not familiar with the drainage procedure, I'll bring your note. I'm also gonna familiarize myself with the contents of a link in an earlier post to be sure I gather up all the info about this procedure. Sure hope my BCM isn't wet, it was just replaced last month for an unrelated issue.
