I just turned 24 a couple months ago, and I bought my car myself, didn't have my parents help at all. And from what I can tell, if you're only wanting to spend no more than $500 for mods, you aren't gonna get too far...I may be wrong. Hell, a full exhaust system will run you anywhere between $700-$1000, and thats if you put it on yourself...add a couple hundred bucks for labor if you have to pay someone. I'm in the same boat you are, I'm looking for fairly inexpensive mods, but lets face it, you might as well stick that $500 in the bank and wait till it at least doubles...
I have more than $500 in the bank....close to $4,000...I just used $500 as a figure...I just sold a pair of Nike Jordan shoes and going to use that $350 towards the car....can someone be a little more specific on what kind of exhaust?

I suggest looking in the Parts Section ... I bought a new set of Corsa Pace Car Edition with Pro Series Tips there for $600.00 (New in box). Who knows what else you may find there?!
Don't worry ... I'm sure lots of people wish they drove a Vette when they were your age. I did, but I wrapped it around a block wall! :o
But as mentioned already ... perf. mods for $500? Not realistically gonna get you much. Best of luck though.
You should mod yourself, meaning leave the car alone, & work on making you a better driver. One strike against you already is that you are very young. This would be a great opportunity to get some professional driving instruction & track time. That way you can safely learn the limits of your car & your driving abilities. That's my vote!
I'd rather stay stock than "trash" up the car by "drilling holes" and ****. As a teenager, I am satisfied w/ what I get at stock. I'm still goign to work on purchasing a new exhaust through one of my dads hook ups. anyone suggest a corsca exhaust?
Finally, if you have money left over, paint the calipers and do the rear letter decals. If you find that the zip tie mod is too difficult for you, then you don't need to be driving a sports car. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. That's how people without lots of money end up fixing up their cars and learning very cool tricks in the process. Basically, don't be a b***ch.
And people, thank you all so much for not jumping all over the kid for not buying the car by himself. If the father wants to have the honor and pleasure to buy the car for his son, then that's fine.
