How's it going,
I have a stock c5 04 vette in silver(coupe). I am 19 years old and have made some money this summer via a summer job. WTS, I am looking to add some mods to my vette. I am looking at investing no more than $500+ in it but at the same time I am having trouble w/ my 'rents. My dad wants to keep it stock(God knows why). I had to talk him into putting new Lloyds mats for weeks. What would be the best mod? I'd like to make the engire purrrrr...but at the same time keep the $ down. Keep in mind that I can not install any of this stuff at all(I'd have to take it to a shop or a kind person in the NOVA would have to help me out). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unless you have a fair amount of desposable income your best keeping it stock until you do. The C-5 is NOT cheap to mod and if you get mod fever the sky is the limit. You said you have an '04 coupe and for $500 you could get a used after market catback like Borla, Corsa, B&B,...etc. But honestly if money is tight your better off spending the money on gas, ins. & wax.
I went with some aesthetic "mods" first, since they didn't require much/any research on the forums; they were relatively inexpensive and subtle:
black out tail light covers
black out DRL covers
exhaust plate cover
interior decal for steering wheel (be careful which one you get... the one that isn't one-piece is crap)
interior decal for passenger airbag
new shift ****
rear steel insert for covette logo
front billet grille
new center glove box
door sill covers and decals
for any kind of performance mods, you may want to browse the community and do your homework first.
From: Los Angeles, CA.... I know a guy who has a Lambo with Corvette doors
You should mod yourself, meaning leave the car alone, & work on making you a better driver. One strike against you already is that you are very young. This would be a great opportunity to get some professional driving instruction & track time. That way you can safely learn the limits of your car & your driving abilities. That's my vote!
All of the mods you guys are recommending are for pure appearance...I wanted to make this bad boy faster . WTS, how much would a new exhaust cost? Any ways of making it louder cheaply?

By NOVA, I assume you mean Northern Virgina. I'm in Fairfax. PM me and we can hook up. I'd be glad to help.

Well said!! At nineteen just to have a Vette is great!! You have to rest of your life to mod!! Pay your rent!
I just turned 24 a couple months ago, and I bought my car myself, didn't have my parents help at all. And from what I can tell, if you're only wanting to spend no more than $500 for mods, you aren't gonna get too far...I may be wrong. Hell, a full exhaust system will run you anywhere between $700-$1000, and thats if you put it on yourself...add a couple hundred bucks for labor if you have to pay someone. I'm in the same boat you are, I'm looking for fairly inexpensive mods, but lets face it, you might as well stick that $500 in the bank and wait till it at least doubles...
Since you want the car to purr, then it's obvious what you really want is the exhaust. I don't blame you, it was the first mod I did on my car and would still be the first if I was doing it all over again. I've got GHL Magnums on mine and love the new sound and look. If I were you, I would just hold on to that $500 and wait until you've got closer to $700 - $800 so that you can buy yourself a good exhaust like the GHL's. Then just hook up with a local forum member and they could probably help you install it. Just don't get impatient and spend the $$ on something else if the exhaust is really what you got your heart set on. Good luck either way.
