I had the welds on the muffler pipes fail at the flange on my 25,ooo mile 1998. The welds broke loose all the way around the flange. Welds didn't penetrate the pot metal flange. Has anyone else seen this failure?
That is not a cure at all, it's the flange on the mid pipe which breaks, i've broken both sides...last time it happened i had a local shop charge me 20.00 for fixing it.
Both pipes broke before 7,000 mi. on my '99. No weld penetration. Service manager (Fox-Rochester) claimed he never heard of this happening before. Then he threatened to charge me for repairs and denied me a loaner car.And when I picked it up, someone put extra miles on the odometer, it had a bend exhaust tip and a thick layer of dust on it. And they wonder why we don't come back.

And I thought bad s*** only happens to me. This just happen to my 18k mile '98 a week ago. The driver side weld let go, taking off the mid pipe flange. Talk about noise....However, this "problem" gave me an excuse to buy a Bassani X pipe for my car.
I have a ? tho--I have to drive my car about 3-4 miles to the installer's location. Will the hot exhaust gasses/heat etc., coming out of the mid pipe cause any problems to the underside of my car???? Any advice will be appreciated...Thanks....

Haven't seen any posts on this in a while, but yes, there have been many cases of the welds failing. A good muffler shop should be able to reweld the flange back on the pipe.
I had the same thing happen four times. I would weld the flange back and it would last about 10,000 miles then break again. The last time it happened I just went out and bought a Corsa X pipe and haven't had a problem since.

This happened to a neighbor of mine with his 99. The stealer, oops I mean dealer wanted $1700.00 CDN for a whole new exhaust system. He told them to pound salt and got it welded for $20 at a friends shop.
