Default Motor went kaboom tonight.....

Well guys my c5 days are over for a while, tonight while take'n a lady friend out for the first time my block decided to crack. As im leaving the resturant and I get on it a bit in first say at about 4000 rpms. Next thing I hear a is a hella klunked klunk kulunk and smoke boiling from my hood. I throw it in nutural and in on the clutch cost to the side of the road. I get out and coolent is prefusly leaking from under my car. So i start taking a look and I concluded I had a head either just crack or a gasket finally give. (stock heads car as 65k with 1k on first cam and headers) Im praying I dont find any coolent on the dipstick and i dont. So i think I maybe safe for a minutem but as I get out the trusty flashlight and began to inspect on the side of the road after calling a wrecker I find it, the worst thing possible..... pieces of what I think is my block sitting in a pool of dark colored liquid (yes oil) laying just below passager side headers.

Now question time......
1.Next thing is what do I do next? Just rip the motor out? I have the equipemnt but not the know how to do it.

2.What do you think the worst of my problems could be? Maybe as far back as the flywheel and clutch? God I hope not....

Please guys im in shock right now, talk some since into what shoud I do now? My brain is traveling 90 to nothing damning ls1's!!

I am also going to post this in Tech...

That does suck. I am very sorry. Been in your shoes a few times. You can get a good used motor from Gene very reasonable. Or move upto a used Z06 motor. Swap is fairly simple for hour cars and cost around 1200-1500

Sorry to hear of your problem. Might be time to consider that LS 7 the forum vendors are advertising now.

That will be my excuse to add a bigger motor with forged internals.

Been there...done that. Mine turned out to be a broken valve. Brand new stainless no less. Out came the motor again. Broken valve took out a piston. Good luck.

the motor can be replaced..notta prob...question is,
did you manage to get to the hotel afterwards. A broken engine, your sad expression, buddy that's a compasionate moment if anything....you had that in the bag... just trying to get you out of the slump....on a serious level, if you don't know what you're doing, I wouldn't try doing a complete overhaul and analysis on your own. Go to someone your trust is all I can say, unless you were here, then I'd give ya a hand...

1st ?- who did your cam 1k ago?
2nd? - Did you hear anything out of the ordinary after the install?

When you had the cam install did you put a heavy duty oil pump in? That could have saved your butt, you know for next time, happened to me too on the track, oil pump went and it spun a bearing, and cracked the block. took it to cartek and they fixed it with stage 2 setup for around 10000. Good luck

I would get a LS6 or LS2 setup and go from there. Lots of good builders that are sponsors on this forum that can get you the perfect setup. Sorry about the blown motor.

Hey, you need some expert advice.......call John Page at 21stMC and talk to him. I'm sure he can get you a nicely built LS6 or LS7, to swap into you vette, one that you can trust this time.

Sorry to hear. Do you know yet what caused this?, doesn't sound typical of a slightly modded vette?? Who did your cam??

HPE (Horse Power Engineering) did the install, but in no way am I laying the blame on them just yet. I know when I did the cam the push rods were replaced with chromoly but they shouldn’t have messed with the length so I think that is out of the question. I will give 21st a call Iv heard good things about them... My brother also lives in carrelton so id have a place to say
