Can someone point me to a discussion on tires or tell me a little bit about them. I need to get new tires very soon. A local shop is quoting me $250 per tire for the goodyear F1s. Is that a good tire, good price? I just have firestones on it right now. I car is my daily driver. Thanks!
www.tirerack.com has a world of info/reviews/test results, etc. They steered me toward the Goodyear GSD3s (26 lbs lighter than the stock runflats) and I couldn't be happier with them.
Just remember, EVERY tire is a compromise. Your first step is to decide what is critical for you...safety (run-flats), ride, handling, durability...then you can focus on which tire is best.
For us (our Vette is not a daily driver) dry handling is very important (for road & track) so we went with Nitto Road Race tires.
Good Luck...just remeber, anything is better than the stock run-craps!
I went with the Firestone Run Flat from Tire Rack on my 97. Excellent tire that grips great in the dry and the wet. Costs less than some others and still gives you the Run Flat advantage.

i just put 4 brand new tires on my 97 a few weeks ago and only paid $490 mounted/balanced and installed.
the rears are sumitomo and the front are nankang. cheap tires, but my car still handles great and i havent had any noise or handling issues yet. and they are all z rated. i drive my car everyday and basically dont have the dough to spend $1k on tires.
you can get low priced tires at any local ghetto rim shops that sell all the dubs and 22's etc etc etc. america tire co. wanted $200 a piece for some falkens.
Discount tire direct still has free shipping on all tires.
I just got a set of Falken FK-451's (280/AA/A, 96Y and 99Y) for $650 installed w/road hazard. This tire has received mixed reviews here, but they seem great for my needs so far...
