Default Check Engine Light

Hey Guys , I know you have probably answered this a hundred times(I couldn't find it in seach) But I have a '00 with 10,100 miles, Never changed the oil (got the car with 9,100 miles on it), drove the car around the block for the first time in 5 months, changed the oil using 6.5 qts of 5w 30 mobil one and mobil one oil fiter, started the car, check engine light came on!!!

Couple things

1) Battery was dead had to charge it (opit red top)
2) Car is low on fuel-Don't want to drive it to gas station with light on.
3) Again car has not been more than a mile in last 5 months(Car never sat outsideALWAYS was in garage over the winter)

Are you sure it is the check engine light and not the check gauges light?

As mentioned above, first run your on-board diagnostics and check for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that might give you some indication as to any problems. The following link tells you how to do this and gives the DTCs specific to each model year:

Computer Codes for !981 - 2003 Corvettes

Also, read that portion of your Owner's Manual concerning the Check Engine Light, especially the sections about If the Light Is Flashing and If the Light Is On Steady. (This should be covered in Section 3, Instrument Panel under Warning Lights, Gages, and Indicators in your manual.) A steady Check Engine Light is very likely an indication of an emission control system malfunction. A flashing Check Engine Light may indicate a misfire or more serious problem. An improperly installed fuel cap or a fuel cap with a bad seal can also cause a (steady) Check Engine Light to set.

Hopefully reading these sections of the Owner's Manual along with checking your car's trouble codes will give you a clearer indication as to your problem.

Also, drive the car more. Letting cars sit too long without being driven can be very hard on them.

Good luck with the fix.

I got the check engine light after my battery had discharged. After fully charging my battery, and reading up on possible causes in the owners manual, I took the car out for a little "aggressive" driving, and the light turned off and hasn't turned on again. You mentioned your battery was discharged so although I'm not sure why it would do this, hopefully this might be the cause. Otherwise, pull the codes and see what comes up. Good luck.
