On the front, you should make it look like its coming out the screens and then it could kindof just taper back onto the front fenders into what it is now. Then if you wanted, it could barely just graze the hood on the sides. On the back, you should do something like this:
Are you doing that yourself or is someone else - looks like that true-fire style paint job I saw on TV before ...
I wish I could take credit for it but can't. I would be thrilled to have half the talent Mark has with an airbrush! His work is similar to Mike Lavallee's, the guy you're referring to on T.V., except with his own personel style added to it. I actually like Mark's flame work the best.
Also Jeff, who owns the body shop, is one of the best in the business.
He's doing the initial prep work, base coat/clear coating, and adding lots of professional advise on the over all project.
I'm very fortunate to have a couple friends here local that have the talent and skills these guys have. Sure makes going through a project such as this a lot less stressful!

Just food for thought
I've actually thought about the front vent flames myself and still haven't ruled that part out yet. I also like your idea of tapering the flames off the sides of the hood and down to the fenders.
On the back I was thinking maybe having some smaller flames & tips kind of flickering up from the rear lower vents, but still not sure about that either.
I appreciate the suggestions.
By the way, that is some awesome flame work you have there too. Are you the artist? If so, you defiantly have the skills!
That looks like it has immense potential. Good luck with it and I can't wait to see the progression of the flames. I hope you take lots of pics after each stage. Very nice.
I have been around people who do this kind of work and they say it is one of the hardest types of art work there is because it is so hard to make it look real.
The art is in the lay out on the car and by my count your car has impressed a lot of your peers.
I like the rest can't wait to see the finished results.
