I have only had my vette for a few months, and have not put 2,000 miles on it, however I have noticed that when I go on a trip, for say at least 100 miles and return, I have a small puddle at the rear of the car. Looking at the car from the rear, it is a few inches towards the passenger's side from the center. This only happens when I'm highway driving and I don't drive over 75 or 80mph.
Has anyone else experience this situation and if so, what was the cause and fix?
Pretty common problem. Ususally it's the driver's side cover. I had mine done at 20K then at 42K. The dealer finally replaced the entire differential under GMPP extended warranty.
Is the fluid oil?
A puddle sounds bad
Many of us have had the dreaded leaking rear diff and there's a seal replacement to fix it. Mine was just a few drops though.
Leaking left side differential cover and axle seals are a common problem. The symptoms of this are much like you describe and you often have to drive the car for a number of miles (40 - 50 or more) for the leak to become noticeable. There are several service bulletins out on this. See the following recent thread on this topic and my post #21 on the second page.
Evidence of a rear diff leaking seal often shows up as grease spots on the rear of the car after highway driving. Never got any accumulation on the garage floor.
I've got 4500 miles on my 03 Vert and just experienced some clear fluid leaking from the same area that your describing.
I heard from over flow tube to bad gasket on the rear end. The problem was that it would stop leaking from time to time. At first it was clear fluid and about Oz or so spouted out and later it became only a few dirty drops here and there. Well took it in to the dealer and sure enough bad rear end gasket, replaced with a better quality component. Mine was on the drive side of the rear end. Covered under warranty!
Pretty common with the Corvette, take it to the dealer and have them repair it, you don't want to keep driving it to the point where the fluid is to low.
