A couple of things I do to make myself feel better while I'm on the road....granted, it wont stop simple break in theft, or a tow truck.
1. just pull ignition fuse.
2. I've also undone the wireharness off the coil packs as well and hid it with the rail covers....
those things will discourage the violater and take a little while to figure out.

This is mostly wasted effort with a Corvette. This only stops someone with a copy of your key from driving off? Very unlikely and even more unlikely on a road trip, because it eliminates the car stalker.
Buy an Autotaser. Its like a club, but has a motion detector built in. When it is armed and senses someone in your car it starts with a loud siren and then 5 seconds later the voltage begins. (the thief will also usually leave a great DNA sample on the driver's seat.) An Autotaser can probably be defeated, but who would want to try.
Production stopped on these several years ago but still show up on eBay pretty often.

Like I said its no use against a tow truck or vandalism, but you do that stuff, at least it wont go anywhere under its own power. Bottomline is they are going to get it if they want it, but might as well make it more difficult.

He had alot of money in this car: BBS wheels, $10K stereo, engine work, the whole thing.
At any rate, an hour and a half later, we come out, and the Porsche is gone. The cops were called, search was on. Found the car 2 miles away in an alley. Both clubs on the seat, nothing missing, no damage. There was a note on the windshield that stated "If I want your car, I'll take your car."
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: Take everything out of it, so that there is no reason for some dumb *** criminal to break into it.. I even leave mine unlocked.. ...
That includes the glove box. Leave it open so its obvious when looking through the window there is nothing in them.
If they want the car they'll take the car. If they just looking for some good stuff maybe to be found in the gloveboxes, then they'll pass because they see you've removed everything.
All good advice I never take myself. I have lo-jack but more importantly, I have insurance so I don't worry about theft any more than that.
I have found a cheap, simple way to discourage thieves. So far it has worked flawlessly; Cover your car.
First, thieves are lazy; It takes too much time to uncover your vehicle in a manner not suspicious to other people in the parking lot.
Second, they cannot see what kind of car you have, or peer into your car looking for goodies.
Third, there are too many cars plainly in view (that they can easily grab the door handle to see if it is unlocked) to peruse to bother with (the unknown) yours.
Lastly, it prevents most delinquents from scratching your vehicle. Although professional theives steal anything, I believe the amount of coverd cars stolen or vandalized is very small.
When I travel my 7 foot boa constrictor rides in the passenger seat.Actually not mine but belongs to a stripper friend of mine. She used to use him in her act, but found she made more money without him.

..rickko..
As for the car cover idea.. Im not sure about that one.. maybe on a daily basis at work, but at a hotel, they will just figure you have something good to hide under there, and it will be #1 on their list of things to take/break into... though I see the other reasoning too, for a daily basis kind of thing..
