Default Traction System...

How many of you out there drive with your Traction System off? Is there a benefit to this; does it effect the gas mileage?
Thanks..for a reply.

Yeah. Supposedly you get higher mileage. Benefit is you have complete control as to how you wanna crash ... side impact ... a 360 then head on ... or the ol' spin spin spin and roll over.

If you wanna play with your car, turn the TC off, THEN let go of the button, push down again (as if to turn it on) and hold it down until you see COMPETITIVE DRIVING MODE.

Driving with TC off Unless you have great driver's training.

Hi MVD,
Thank you for the reply. I was basicly told the same thing once before. SO I guess I'll stick to driving with the TC in the ON mode.

If it saves you 1 time out of 1000 rides, it is well worth keeping it on.

Wise decision. These cars can get away from you very quickly and you need to be careful anytime you turn T/C off.

My traction control stays off all the time and has been for five years. Same with my previous FRC. No traction control on my previous nine Vettes either.

I like driving my car and making it do what I want it to. My right foot is my traction control.

Since you have to ask others about it and don't have a good grip on what it does or how it works (yet ) my suggestion to you would be to leave it on to keep yourself out of trouble.

What is the COMPETITIVE DRIVING MODE all about? Never knew about it until you said something? What is it for? Thanks...

I leave mine on for probably 99% of the time. Just another safety feature for you to take advantage of.

I don't turn mine off very often, Iive had vettes get away from me in the past. Not a lot of fun when that happens. Not only can it scare the hell out of you, but be very expensive as well.

...I never run in competitive mode...

On two separate occasions, I believe my TC saved my car. Once going under a bridge and up a hill with wet payment. On the bridge, a water truck was leaking water all over the road I was driving on. I was going up hill and turning at the same time. I felt the rear end break loose and begin to slide to the right. The TC can on and snapped me back straight. The second time I was driving in the rain and a dog was in my path of travel. Instead of hitting him dead on I pulled to the right and back to the left, I did not feel the TC come on but saw on the DIC it was active once I gained control. So two times, I believe it has helped me. I fell I am a very good driver and may have gain control both times with it off, but the systems works.

So for the most part I leave it on, unless I plan for the tires to spin!

R U speaking of the "Active Handling" or is the traction control something different. In my 04, the "Active Handling" control stays on mostly. I also have the "Magnetic selective Ride" control, but have not noticed a great difference between "Tour" or "Sport".

WOW! Cajun...I too have had Vettes in the past without the feature of TC and lost my '84 twice on a slightly wet road. Very glad that these C5 have the "Traction Control" (not speaking of "Active Handling")

So for us who come to the forum to ask question and to learn, your statement: "Since you have to ask others about it and don't have a good grip on what it does or how it works (yet ) my suggestion to you would be to leave it on to keep yourself out of trouble. " is not a very helpful solution. Have a Dixie Beer and some crawfish on me

I love my vette, but I love it more when I turn the Traction control off. I drove mine for 3 years with the traction control off, it drove great. The only time you need T/c is when you are caught in the rain. I'm serious. It must be the old guys that leave the Traction control on all the time.

Saves me about $1000 a year in rear rubber.

Makes me think twice before lighting them up, because I gotta push that stupid button for 5 secs while at a stop!
