Hello everybody. I am new to C5s but I come from owning a 62 for 25 years. I decided to upgrade to the C5 due to wife having medical problems with her back and the 62 was not fun for her to drive in anymore. So we wanted to upgrade. Anyway I am going to pick up an 04 and wanted to know of anything I should do in order to have an uneventful drive back. The drive home will be 754 miles from Texas to Florida so I just wanted to know what to look out for. Also how do you get the DIC to show all the codes just want to check it out before I leave the lot. Thanks for the help.
You shouldn't have any problem at all with your '04 that aren't part of normal long distance driving. Check all the fluid levels, tire pressure (30 psi COLD), etc.
Remember, though, that you don't have a spare tire. You can toss together an inexpensive tire repair kit and 12 Vdc compressor for about $30 or so. A small jack and jacking pucks cost a bit more but might be a good investment. Do a search on this subject here in the Forum.
Other than that, keep the GM 1-800 roadside assistance number or the AAA toll free number handy should you have an problems.

Welcome to C5 ownership, the cars are great and drive like a dream. Should have no problems on your drive back home. Many prior thread have spoken about long drives home with positive comments about the comfort, ride, and good gas mileage.
To check codes. Turn car on - not started. Wait for all of the words to end on the DIC. hit the reset button to clear the DIC. Hold the Options button and hit the top button (I think fuel) 4 times and it will switch over and run the check. If you hit the reset button in the middle of the test it will go to manual mode, but you probably will not need that.
If you're coming through Nashville do you need a place to stay over night???? If so drop me an e-mail. I'm right off I-65.
If not have a great time with your new baby.
Congrats on your new Vette!!! Your going to have a great drive home with it, I did with mine 1-1/2 years ago. Welcome to the forum, a great place for a c5 owner!
Thanks for the reply from everybody and I am looking forward to the trip. This car is so much different then the 62 I had I am really looking forward to the drive. It does bother me a little bit about not having any spare tire but I think it is worth the risk to just be able to drive this car. It is torch red with tan interior 6spd and I can't wait to get to it. The forum from the C1 section was always very helpful and I can imagine that this one will be very good as well. I have doen some research to see what normal probelms these cars have and the one other problem I wonder about is the columum lock problem. Is there a quick way to see if this had been "fixed" by Gm yet. Other wise I was thinking of taking the bypass mod with me and installing it there when I pick it up. Any more suggestions?

sorry there is no GM solution to the CL for MN6s. Your only solution is the CLB. Luckily for you the CLB works all the time on 00 - 04 prior to that it sometimes worked.
The install is about 30 mins for the first time. It is simple to do, but you need to take the dash apart. Make sure you have a torq#15 with you and a flat head screwdriver.
Chances are you will not have any problems on your ride home, but don't hold me to that.
and yes there are plenty of people on the C5 forum that will be able to give you good sound advice....
If the car has run flat tires then there should be no worries. You can drive 200 miles on a flat and you won't even know it. The computer will tell you. Have a fun and safe trip.
You 2 are gona love the drive home. You may even drive out of your way , just for fun. You should get 25-30mpg depending on how you cruise.
If its a Vert get sun screen, lip coating and hats.
