... Is there a quick way to see if this had been "fixed" by Gm yet. ...
Though GM doesn't have a 'fix' for the MN6 (stick) it still recalled the car and performed a software upgrade and was suppose to observe the operation of the column lock with the steering wheel off as I understand. All an attempt to stop a problem before it starts.
You CAN check if this has been done by going to ANY GM service center and asking to see a printout of all maintenance recorded for your VIN.
Heck, if you have the VIN now you can take it to your local GM dealer tomorrow and ask for the printout. It will show if the car was returned to a dealership for Warranty or Recall work. Will show date and mileage as well.
Most '04s were returned to have some control arm(?) washers replaced so you might see that on the printout as well.
Congrats on your new ride! Have fun on the drive; especially with your MN6! Its a beautiful car.
Congrats! I think you will find that the C5 makes an excellent road car. My wife and I make one or two road trips of around 1K miles or more each year find our '03 vert to be very comfortable.
The following site tells how to run the onboard diagnostic and provides the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) specific to each model year. (I assume this is the type DIC codes you are asking about.) This site hasn't been updated yet with the model year 2004 DTCs yet, but you should find them very much the same as for 2003 with very few exceptions. Also, as you will see, the DTCs are very easy to delete and the absence of any doesn't necessarily mean that the car hasn't thrown any in the past.
Well thanks again from everybody for the responses to the thread. I really got more replies than I thought I would get. I am looking forward to the experience of driving this car and being part of this C5 section in the forum.
