I had a short in some aftermarket wiring which has been corrected. I lost brake lights, Cruse Control, and the headlights would not go down but still turned on and off.
Replaced one bad fuse, brake lights are now working again. I haven't been able to test the cruse control.
Main concern is that the headlights stay up.
Any suggestions?

Ah, come on guys... It's so simple. Maybe you need a refresher course. Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays... Now, you prepare that Fetzer valve with some, uh, 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need about 10 quarts of antifreeze... preferably Prestone... No... No, make that Quaker State...

Lets see, a short in some wiring... hmmm, maybe you toasted more than you think. Maybe one of your control modules (BCM, PCM, ???) is not so well anymore.
This is gonna sound all wrong, but... is your DIC showing any problems?

This is where to start given what happened with the wiring. However, he may not see anything on his DIC, lucky if he does and even luckier if gets codes.
You really need a scan tool to go through the diagnostics. There is a headlamp door control module under the right side headlight... that could be what is blown..
Hard to say, it's one of those problems you have to go through systematically... and we have no way of knowing what aftermarket wiring was done and where....
I changed the brake light fuse which got them working again and brought the cruise control back. I noticed tonight that the dash lights are out but when I pulled into the garage, shut it off, and pulled the key the interior lights and all of the dash lights came on.
DIC is working fine.
The short was in the wiring for trailer lights. It hung down and got melted behind the exhaust pipe.
The only wires there are tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals.
Beats me why the head lights will not go back down. I check the head light fuse and tapped the headlight circuit breakers. (I don't know why but tapping them felt like I was doing something)
Tomorrow I will check for a fuse for the dash lights.

I got tired of trying to figure out what wasn't working so I started going through the fuses in the passenger foot well one by one. I found two more blown fuses. When I replaced one of them, #6, the headlights went back down.
Now I know all of my fuses are good and everything is working properly again.

Congrats...
As I said it had to be fuses...
...What I didnt say was that we went over the fuses 3 times before we actually found the fuse that was bad...
Old thread but I just had the exact same problem ... trailer harness drug the ground and shorted out causing dash lights to not work an headlamps to not go down. Replaced #6 and all is fine now :-)
6 year old (almost to the exact day) thread helped out :-)
