Default Top off + Down Pour = bad

The sun was out and it was 90 degrees. I took the top off my vette for a quick run to the store to get wax and other cleaning supplies for a big day of out door car cleaning.

I was in the store commenting how hot it was and that we need some rain then all of a sudden it happnened. BAM!! the crack of thunder and then rain so intense you couldnt see outside.

I ran the 200 ft or so to my car poped the trunck and got the hard top on faster then I ever have before.

The car took all kinds of water in the maybe 2 minutes in the intese down pour.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

The storm lasted like 10 minutes now its sunny and hot again.

Just a freak little storm that couldnt have been more then a mile wide right on top of my topless vette.

On the way home a mile down the road there was not one drop of rain on the ground.

crazy

Sorry to hear, any damages?

You must live in Texas. Don't like the weather wait 5 minutes or walk across the street.

Had the same thing happen going down the freeway at dusk. I pulled under a overpass and and the traffic going by was so scary I was afraid to get out of the car to put the top up. I then discovered it actually can be done while staying in the drivers seat.

if you maintain a speed of 60 or above, as long as there is no cross wind, or spray from trucks you can drive in the rain with the top down, and not get a drop in the car.

The look on other peoples faces as they drive and see you cruising with the top down in the rain is priceless.

I have done this 3-4 times.

before i sold my 85 coupe i got caught numerous times in rain .if you can get up to about 55 you would be suprised how much water goes over the car instead of in it .next time just get in and drive .youll be suprised of the outcome...also put a fan on it ,set one in a chair beside it and it will dry faster than u think ...

With the type of down pours we have in Houston 60 would be a dangerous speed. One or more inches of water on the road can happen in minutes.

Yes, I had this happen to my '01. Same story, except I went in to work for 30 minutes...wasn't supposed to rain at all.

I hear the thunder, look out, looks nasty.

Get to the parking lot and the rain is POURING down. I had 2" of water on the floor, seats soaked etc. etc.

Bye the time I got home (20 minute drive soaking wet) it was sunny again...

I just wet vac'd everything, pullled the seats and let them and the car sit in the sun. At night I put a box fan in the car (still no seats) in the garage to keep air circulating.

One very nice thing is the carpet has a plastic backing, so no padding got wet and once the surfaced dried it was dry - my biggest concern was mildew.

So, I've been there. Get it dried out so it doesn't mildew and all will be well. My '01 ended up cleaner after that than it was new

Got caught in one of those freek showers here, actually I saw the dark clouds on the mountain and thought I could make it.......wrong. I actually pulled into some guys garage and put the top back on and with a quick wipe down all was well. I bought the guy a bottle of wine for the surprise of me in his garage as at first he wasn't all that happy but turned out to be a hell of a guy. He heard the Borla's in his garage and didn't know what was up

Been there, done that. Luckily, I have been able to get the top back on before it got real wet.
