Default AC vents not working!

Hello all!

I was wondering if any one could give me some insight on my AC vent suddenly stop working.....the air still blows cold but mainly blow out the defrost vent. There is some slight air coming out of the rest of the vents but not like normal. When I press the mode button to redirect air to floor, front, etc..... it doesn't make a different. Does anyone have/had this problem and know the fix?

Thanks in advance!!

Not absolutely positive on this but sounds like the mode button has ceased to operate correctly. It is not sending the message to the mechanicals to operate properly if all modes are failing. Cost for a fix? Sorry I don't have a clue. This could be a job for the professionals.

Another good possibility is that your battery has leaked acid onto the vacuum hoses for the AC vents. Once they have a hole in them I believe the venting defaults mainly to the defroster vent. It happened to me.

This is a really common problem. If you have ever had a battery leak this is probably the cause.

Default Same thing (almost)

I have the same problem only my unit is stuck in the bi-level mode... I have an appointment with my friendly mechanic on Thursday... I did have a battery spill - Added too much water and it flowed out in the Arizona heat on a 300 mile trip. I remoed the battery and flushed the area... I have not been able to locate the vacuum hoses though... Does anyone have any idea where they are hiding???? Also, I read that the a/c would perform cooler if I reduced the freon charge to 1.11 pounds instead of 1.4... Is this true... Itis 120+ here right now and I need to cool things off in my beautiful Corvette!

Thanks for the fast response! And actually I have had a battery leak about 6 months ago! One of the post broke right off!

Are the hoses hard to get to below the battery case, meaning are they visible or behind or under some obstruction?

Thanks again in advance!!

Sounds like we are all having the same problem!

My link: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...t&forum_id=103

Once I get my lug nut key ordered to get my wheels off, I will have figured out how to get to the vacuum lines, then I just need to figure out how to splice them.

could it be possible that im not getting air through the vents, and only through the defroster just because the freon is low? or do you think that i should replace the compressor too? (its ticking quite a bit...)

I have the same problem with my company Van. Ac only blows through the defrost. I'll check for a battery leak tomorrow.
