Default speedos sick

Need help my speedo sometime does not work, I have to stop turn off the motor ,restart to get it to work , sometimes I have to start 2-3 times to get it working. Trans will not shift when this happens. I do have an FLP level 4 trans. It shifts by vacuum. This started sometime after changing trans. and rearend. but not right away.

I know on my '96 Mustang GT, the speedo was connected by a cable that ran to the trans and bolted on. My bolt came loose and my speedo would quit working( after I had swapped the trans). Could this possibly be your problem too?

I would tend to suspect the work that was recently done rather than your speedo in the IP spontaneously going south. Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is in the diff so it's possible it's failing due to something that occurred during the swap. You can see the black VSS connector on the top of the diff in the pic below.

when it's not working.... does the cruise control work? If it does work,
does the DIC still register speed (when you set the CC) ?
