[Z06] Diff leaking

Diff leaking

I finally got a chance to take my Z on a long trip and then I parked it in the garage overnight...next morning I leave and there is some gear oil on the floor. I got a good look at it yesterday and noticed that the left side (when looking at the rear) has been leaking for a little while since there is dirt and grunge in there but just on the left side.

I decided to check since reading some of the threads recently on this issue. Has anyone else had this work done under warranty when their car is out of warranty? Is this doable for a reasonably good DIY'er? Does anyone know a good dealer in the SF Bay area that I could get to look at it? Thanks for your responses.

I was just under mine and it is leaking too. Same general area, diff on the drivers side. Let us know how you do..

02 had same problem took to dealer under warranty and dealer replaced o-ring problem resolved

Wow I figured no-one was interested in my post and now I get two responses!!! I'm going out of town on vacation for a week, so when I get back I will see if I can get a dealer to address this issue and try to get them to warranty it also. I will let everyone know how it goes. Any clues by anyone about the dealers in the SF Bay area preferably south or east bay? Thanks.

If you get the chance please post the part number of the o-ring that solves the problem :-).

Same for me. My seals were replaced at 9000mi.

Make sure it just isn't coming out the vent tube at the top of the rear end. It will look like a leak in the seal when this happens. My 2003 did it after my first 200 mile cruise and EVERYONE told me the seal was gone. It was leaking down the drivers side and splashed onto the area around it.

Then someone posted that it could be when the rear end heats up on a long drive it can "puke" out the vent. I checked the level of fluid in the rear end and they had it a little overfilled as it spilled out when I took the fill plug off.

I used a suction gun to bring the level of the fluid about 1/4 inch BELOW the filler hole and it has been fine for the last two years, no leaks.

If it is the seal, it is a common problem. Many people have had to get that seal replaced. Its about $700 (if I remember right) to repair, if it is out of warranty. I would complaint to the dealer if you are outside of the warranty; this should have been a recall.
