Robbery Attempt Near Expressway Leaves 1 Wounded, 1 Dead

MIAMI -- Police say an attempted robbery left the victim wounded, a robbery suspect dead, and a second suspect missing.
Miami-Dade police said that two men in a gray van with South Carolina plates tried to rob a man who was in a Corvette on the Northwest Avenue access road to the Palmetto Expressway. The driver of the Corvette was shot in the stomach during the robbery attempt.
Police said one of the robbery suspects got out of the van, and ran across the expressway into the parking lot of a Modernage Furniture store where he collapsed. That man was found dead a short time later. Police have not said what caused his death.
The other man in the gray van drove away, but later left the van at a gas station and took off on foot. That robbery suspect is still on the loose.
The driver of the Corvette was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. There have been conflicted reports regarding his condition.
