Sounds like the 1st to 2nd gear syncro. If your car is still under warranty, the dealer will fix that for free if that is the problem. When my cluch is hot after launching it, the clutch pedal feels short, but the gears work fine.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Could be syncro or bent shift fork maybe? Been there done that but I messed up my 3rd syncro :o Sugest you clean the back of the car up realy good before you take it in just to make sure you do not get hasled with your warenty. Ruber from the track gets all over the back end to include top of mufflers, in-side back of rear, under the rear vents, wheel wells ect... Good luck and I hope it was just a hot clutch

At 9000mi. I lost my 5th to 6th gear syncro, had bent shift forks too. This is a common problem. If you check on ZO6Vette.com you will find alot of people that had the same problem. Apparently GM fixed the problem in 04'.

Some advice...
If you like the drag strip I'd strongly recommend you replace the stock shifter with a unit that has positive stops, like the Kirban unit. Stops help prevent bent shift forks, which sometimes occur during the hard shifting of a 1/4 mile run. Your problem doesn't necessarily sound like a bent fork, but prevention is a good thing.
Of course it's possible that you have a tranny issue but...
Most missed shifts at the drag strip are the result of improper hand position on the shifter.
My advice is alway keep your thumb OFF the shifter.
Pull the shifter with cupped fingers (no thumb).
Push the shifter with the heel of the hand, no fingers.
To go 1-2, pull the shifter straight back (remember cupped fingers and no thumb.) Same applies to the 3-4.
To go 2-3, push the shifter toward the radio (remember heel of the hand and NO thumb). This will allow the strong centering springs to find the 3d gear shift gate.
I have about 300 passes with a stock shifter and no tranny issues. When I miss a shift, it's because
(1) I forget to keep my thumb off the shifter, or
(2) My hand slips off the shifter amid shift. To eliminate that, I wear a wet-weather golf glove on the right hand to maintain a good grip with my fingers and palm, again no thumb.
Just a thought.
As the others indicated, you may have overheated the clutch by too slow a release at launch. Worth remembering to get the clutch out fast.
