Default Cracks In Rotors

I was surprised today to find cracks in my front rotors along the outer edge. I hear it is pretty common. I never noticed it so take a close look at yours. A bunch of little vertical cracks all the way around.

Heat cracks from hard braking. No not covered by warrenty. Time to get new rotors or soon will be. Raybestos NAPA rotors at $28 / each are better then OEM.

Do more expensive rotors or nickle or zinc coated rotors last longer??? NOT just more profit to the companies.

Thanks for the lead on the Raybestos NAPA rotors.

I looked at one, and while looking at the wheels, I noticed heat cracks. It isn't uncommon as far as I know. Hard braking generates a lot of heat, and these rotors warp easily as well. The stock Z brakes WORK though! Man do they stop!!!

Yes, I am going to replace them anyway because my Z is just about ready for a break pad change anyhow. I am going to get the rotors while I'm at it.

What about GM performance cross drilled and slotted rotors. There only $40 each from www.gmpartsdirect.com. I am getting a set for my z06 since the front disc have a little warp in them.

Rotor warping is a myth. In most cases there is an uneven deposition of brake pad materail on the rotor. WHen this happens and you put on the brakes the peddle 'feels'like it is pusating and you think the rotor is warpped. Just clean the rotor with some brake cleaner then rebed the rotor.

D/S rotors work well under normal street driving and do look Cool. We do not recomend D/S for consistant heavy braking use or track use. For 99.99% of the corvette drivers D/S will work just fine.

D/S rotos will ware done the brake pad sooner as the slot scraps the pad. How much sooner?? you may get 90% of the padd life so it is reallyonly a little bit.

A myth? Hardly. When you have your rotors "turned" on a lathe and can see the warping first hand as they turn, it's hardly a myth.

I'm a pro at destroying NAPA rotors at least one every track event. I always bring a spare set. I can change a rotor in 5 min now... like NASCAR baby.
