Default Column lock bypass from Thunder Racing ???

Has any one installed the system from Thunder Racing. It did not come with the cigarette lighter cord that I had seen before. This is what I got... http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...d=220&pcid=156

did mine this spring. Just follow the instructions and your fine. You end up pulling a fuse in the footwell instead of using the lighter cord.

As long as your column is unlocked, no.

Just follow the instructions.

Just installed mine this week. ALthough not billed as a difficult mod - it's even easier. ALso bypassed the GM recall relay on the MN6 with assist from FRCTony. Peace of mind is back.

As long as your wheel is not locked, you do not need the cigarette lighter thing.

That is just to get it unlocked.

Believe me, I know.

I bought mine through Corvettes of Houston, it came with the cig lighter adapter, less than 30 minutes to install. The instructions it came with said to turn on the ignition key once the adapter was in place to unlock column, didn't need to with my 04, as lighter plug was hot.

Got mine from Thunder Racing, & installed it this week. Took about 20 minutes to install. No need for the cig lighter adapter.

I bought mine from Thunder Racing, but I still got "Pull Key - Wait 10 Sec" on the DIC, so I ended up taking it into the dealer and had them do the factory recall. That fixed the problem and I returned the CLB back to Thunder for a refund (less 20% restocking fee). I thought that was good.

I got mine from Thunder last year, and it included the cig lighter adapter. As everyone else has stated, you only need the adapter if the column is already locked. Still have mine if you need it.

I hope this fixes my service column lock problem and my car will run. Any thing else I need to do? The column is unlocked but the car will not go even one foot with out shutting off?

What else do I need to do to get my beast back on the road?

Hi GASSER,

I feel for you but you should have never let the dealer do the recall because they reprogramed your computer to shut down your fuel supply if there is a problem. Obviously your computer thinks there is a problem even though your column is not locked. I have heard that some 98's and/or 99's sometimes have problems accepting a CLB.

I hope that anyone reading this will have enough brains to understand that the recall that GM does on the MN6's is only to protect them from a liability issue. They figured out that they couldn't legally immoblize the column lock but there is no law against them putting you on the side of the road with a disabled fuel supply. The recall they do does not affect your Column Lock at all and it is just as likely to lock up as before they messed with your computer.

You can refuse the recall just like I did and all I had to do was sign the invoice so they could notate in their computer that the recall had been declined by the owner.

The problem is, I am not sure if I have had the recall or not. I got the car used.

I am guessing by what you are saying, that I must have the recall since my fuel is cutting and stock it would not do this.

Now that it is doing this, what is my options? I don't want to take it to a dealer. I just want my car to drive.

I have access to a GM scan tool to read codes and erase codes etc...

I just don't know what to do now.

You don't need it.

The thing in the photo is the actual CLB. The cig lighter thing is just a "stimulator" to unlock the column.

You can check to see if your car has had the recall, just call up your dealer and have them run your VIN in their computer. If it was done, no matter where it was done, it will come up on their computer. I bought mine used from a great guy in Maryland. His dealer said they had done the recall, but I told my dealer that it wasn't done right. So they checked it and sure enough, it was not done at all. So they back charged the other dealer and they fixed my car. If your getting the "pull key - wait 10 seconds, pull the key and try it again. Mine would always start after the second time I pulled the key. My dealer fixed it right and now I don't have the problem. Remember from my previous post, the CLB that I bought from Thunder didn't work, my car was one of those rare 98's that it wouldn't work on.
