My friend has a 99 C5 that has a battery problem. It has the keyless entry feature. He has tried leaving the key in the ignition, also removing the key from the vehicle..... and the battery still goes dead after about 3 days. Checked all obvious things. Has a new redtop battery. Battery is charged to full charge status after each dead battery event. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?
I can tell you what I did which is fairly simple. When I bought my 98 last year, if it sat more than 3 days the battery would be very weak - and it was a fairly new battery. After reading some info on the forum here, I realized there were several "power drainers" on the C5. So I pulled the fuse on the pwr seats first and after 3 days or so the battery was perfect. I pulled the pwr seat switch on the drivers side, took it apart, it was broken internally - replaced it and it's been great since.
When I replaced my Delco battery with Optima Red Top last month, the first one died the very night I replaced it. Wouldn't take a charge. I returned it for another one, and made the guy at the shop test it for charge.
Took it home, put it in, and, drove around for an hour. In that hour, I discovered something... I had left the damn interior lights on! I didn't see it because I did the work on the car in the daytime. When I drove it around, it was at dusk, after driving home from work, and replacing the battery.
