Default Older C5 prices.....

I've seen so many threads regarding the value of older C5's.....and I'm amazed at how low some here seem to think they can buy them for (or how little theirs is worth).

Take a look at what's going on here in SoCal....average price in my area is $23,684 for 97-99's........

Maybe anybody considering selling should move their car to SoCal to sell......

That seems to be on par with what a similar car would be going for here.

But according to some of the other threads I've seen......some would say you got ripped.

My intention with this thread is to show that not everywhere are low mile 97-99's widely available for the high teens.....as some might believe by recent threads.

I agree with you that Vettes (and most everything) fetch a higher price in CA. That's why I bought one out of AZ, and later one out of IL. But you also have to keep in mind that when looking through the ads, there is such a thing as Asking Price and Selling Price. And they're rarely the same $$$.
And then there is Forum Pricing …

I think the condition is as important as the year. I paid $17 for a 1997 with 75K miles and drove to Okla. to get it and believe me I did a lot of looking first. According to the Forum I should have not paid over $16. You can't buy a 97 even with this many miles in this condition for $16K.

I just bought a 19,000 mile 1997 in the Chicago area. That car is freakishly clean and in like-new condition in every respect. It is my experience that nice, low-mileage '97 to '99's are very hard to find, and the prices reflect that. If you want a really nice, clean car, you will pay a premium. I spent $22,000 for mine, and I don't think I overpaid for what I got.

There is also differing opinions on what is low miles, a 97 with only 19K miles is low and worth a premium. One with 75K miles might be low for a daily driver, but IMHO, not for a Corvette and attainable in the high teens. If you want a real low miles 97-99, like Green LT1's, you'll probably pay more, unless you get lucky and find the a real motivated seller.

I'm in Los Angeles, and there are PLENTYof them under 20k. In your own search, there were over TWENTY of them under the 20k price.. and that's BEFORE negotating, you can kick off another 2-3k!

This one is a tremendous deal at 15k:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...p=y&cardist=54

Anyhow.. 23k is waaaaay too much to pay for a 97-99 unless you're getting a vert or z06 or frc.

As said above big difference between asking and selling price. Also the Internet has shrunk the car buying world. People shop nationwide anymore. Many are willing to pay a little more though to buy local. Saves on travel costs and shipping. I do agree though prices on cars are higher in CA.

Depending on your mileage and condition that is not unreasonable for a 98 vert. You could probably do that well on ebay if it is low miles.

Its inevitable... anytime you try and have a civilized conversation

We knew it was coming... im surprised it took this long

A well taken care of and low mileage 97, in Sothern California (not a Mara Salvatrucha 13 "special") will run $22k or so...

I can get one with 240,000 for $19.99.. kinda like the one listed above... but thats not what were talking about here...

Thank you.

It's amazing that he picked the bottom 20 to make his point and ignored the other 55 cars that were over $20K, including the 30 that were $24K or more. If you want to narrow your search to the cheapest 25% of the lot.....then you get what you deserve.

Default my 99 sixspeed coupe

Cost me 24k + 1,900 tax & license in WA state.
I looked for a long time, and found newer C5's, with less miles than
mine (54.6miles), for alot more and some were Z06's of course.
Orig. I wanted a C6, and could have gotten one next summer, by saving enought to shave off 20k to keep the monthly payment down.
But I just couldn't wait! I had to have a Corvette, and I love my 1st Vette, just the way it is. The Tires on it, only have 5500 miles on them, everything works, it has 2 tops, one painted, one tinted blue.
I needed to have a Vette, and I needed to keep the payments low, (209 a paycheck x 2 per month at 4.9%) allows us to also get our 1.5
acres landscaped and room for the Corvette in our garage.
I will definitely be getting a C6 coupe or Vert in a couple years after
I get my 40x60x16 shop built in the back, but in the mean time I get
to drive my Corvette daily !! I've been waiting 45 years off and on
dreaming of owning a Vette, and my dream has come true.
No surpises when I picked it up, and I only had to drive about 200 miles to purchase it from a private seller.

Hmm.. what's wrong w/ that one in the ad? It had 105k miles.. that's not bad especially for somethign that runs as reliable as the C5. It looks pretty damned clean to me.

No need to get defensive on the depreciation of our vehicles. I've accepted it.. seeing all these 16 year olds run around in the depreciated C5. Oh well, their insurance will still be high.

So you are saying, that because there are over 20 corvettes out of 70, that are listed under the 20k range.. that it should be ignored and they don't count? LOL, you must not be a math major. But I'll break it down for you.. that sample of 20 cars is 28% of all vehicles listed. That's close to 1/3. So 1/3 of the vehicle prices shouldn't count? Ok.

Furthermore, my 18 year old bro bought a 1998 C5 coupe for $16.5k (after tax, after registration, etc) 3 months ago with 80k miles on it, and is cherry! And since I've been a C5 owner awhile, I know what to look for, and this thing is prestine. So what do you have to say about that? It must be a lurking piece of junk waiting to explode. Run for the hills!

Listen you freakin ignoramous......read carefully because it seems you're incapable.....

I'm saying the AVERAGE (understand that word?????) early C5 Corvette in SoCal goes for about 22-23K. Obviously there are exceptions.....and if studs like you and your brother (18 yrs old - well experienced I assume.... ) can find them.....well more power to you. But in the meantime......the other 90% of early C5's sold will be sold for $20K+.

Understand that or do you need pictures?

See.....now you're showing your *** in this. "All these 16 year olds". Man......I don't know a single 16 year old with a C5 (not to say there isn't one or more somewhere)......and the number of less than 20 year olds here in the C5 section is miniscule. Oh.....and the average (have you looked that word up yet?) age of a C5 owner is 50+. But of course you know better than the rest of us, don't you. Good job stud.
