Default Help....Seat Problem

I have heard other members on the forum refer to a problem that affects the seats in the vettes and have heard them refer to it as "rocking seat" or something similar to it. In my Z06 if you put a little too much weight on the driver's seat the backrest clicks one time very loudly and goes back. I was wondering if my symptoms are those of "rocking seat" and if so, is it easy to fix. I have warranty but i just want to know if it is a simple procedure so that i can plan more or less how long my car will be at the dealer. Thanks....

No, "rocking seat" was the slight movement in the seat, back and forth, when you accelerated or decelerated.... no clicking sounds...

sounds like you got yourself a different problem...

if you find out what it is, post it.. in case I get the same problem!

I've had that happen to my driver's seat also. Haven't been able to figure out just what is causing it yet.

ha... finally someone who thinks the same.. I miss my 97 coupe seats... they were much better.. I like the people who say " they put those seats in to save weight"... hog wash.. they did it for bigger profits... crap seats in and they can save a bunch of money and charge you more for the car...

I want to swap them out for the coupe seats..

The problem is caused by that crappy infinite adjustable seat back mechanism. When you lift up on the lever on the side of the seat it releases jaws on the two cables that control the seat back position. When you release the lever the jaws clamp down on the cables allowing you to adjust the seat back to almost any position you desire.

Most of the time when it has happened to me, I twist a little to fasten the seatbelt, or I try to raise up a little to get my wallet out to pay a toll or parking fee. What a pain in the a$$. These are a minor pain because you have to stop, get out and lift the lever to get the seatback problem corrected. I had a major problem one time at Bragg-Smith, I was entering turn #8 at 115MPH, applying lots of brakes and downshifting to 3rd and POP, the entire seatback let go. It unbalanced the car so much at that critical point that I was forced to drive off the track. I mentioned this to Dave Hill at the LeMans race a little over a week ago. He said the problem is caused by one lever and two cables.

I read somewhere that there is a GM Bulletin out on this problem and have tried to get the dealer to fix the problem, but they say the rollbar I have caused the problem, which is a bunch og melarky because it happened before I put in the rollbar also.

One thing I do before each track session is to lift up on the lever before I get in just to release any tension that may exist. The problem has never occurred on the track since.

I agree these seats are crap for competitive driving, the C4 seats were much better. But these seats are so comfortable on a long trip, I returned two weeks ago from a 3-week, 6,800 mile trip to Asheville North Carolina.

If anyone has gotten a dealer to fix this under warranty, let me know.
