Default Exhaust install question

I figure its pretty easy to install a cat-back system. From what I've read you simply unhook the hangers and clamps and detatch the exhaust at the flanges and the end of the H-pipe. My question is whats on the other end of the H-pipe. Like if I wanted to install an x-pipe. Is this as easy as the cat-back install? The reason I ask is because I can get a great deal on the magnaflow "magnapack" exhaust which goes all the way up. Any input on the "magnapack" would be appreciated as well.

Thanks,
Chris

To install the X pipe you cut the H pipe out. Depending on the X pipe it can be clamped in or welded in.

The H-pipe would have to be cut, but it is something you can do. If you have a lift the process is much easier. Good luck.

It really is easy to do, a lift makes it a lot easier but you can do on ramps too, just take your time and don't force anything and you will do great and love the way it is going to sound and save yourself a lot of money on the install a the same time.

Doesn't sound too hard. Still, anyone know anything about the "Magnapack"?

Some small tips

If you use a Chain Tubing Cutter it will make the reassembly much easier because it puts a slight bevel on the end of the cut pipe.

Do not remove the bolts or brackets at the very back of the exhaust system where the mufflers' flat tabs slide in. The old cat-back section will just slide out and the new one will slide in.

When holding the new X-pipe up to the old H-pipe to mark where you are going to cut - also mark how far it's supposed to slide up on the old exhaust pipe so you know when it all the way on.

Have fun, it aint that hard.

thanks for all the help guys. Also, anyone know where I can get access to a lift in the DFW area for the amount of time its gonna take to do this? I'm just swaping Stingers for my OEM. No X-pipe yet.

Hey Chris - are you going to cut off the existing cat-back, or are you going to try and save it uncut? If you are going to cut it, then you don't need anything but ramps to do this. And I've got a deal for you, if you want - I have a 2004 also, and had an x-pipe installed (weld-in) just like StephenT is showing here. I took off the center section at 5,000 miles when I installed my headers and such, and it's just leaning up against the wall in my garage. The center section is only going back in when I sell the car or trade it in, and that isn't for a few years - and when I do, I'd hate to just throw out the x-pipe. If you want to swap center sections, I'm happy to do it.

Sorry, I have no info on the Magnapack. Can't believe it wouldn't be better than the stock mufflers, though.
