Just went through that mess yesterday. Luckily I was able to get it unlocked and immediately put the column lock bypass that was sitting on the workbench in the garage. I'd suggest the same!

I'm not sitting even half as low as some of you guys on the forum and they had some MAJOR difficulties getting my car in the air....the tires were turned at probably 15-20 degrees in the garage...took 3 different tow trucks....3 different guys...the last guy who had been towing cars for 15 years finally got it after about an hour of thinking and another hour of work......car got in the shop at about 6:45...i talked to the sales manager and he was kind enough to open up the gates to take me to the service side and hve it parked inside the shop overnight get my courtesy car tomorrow...it was also displaying LOW OIL LEVEL on the dic...and the column lock thing...and my driver side lock still isn't working properly...it doesn't unlcok with the keyfob shes in for some major surgery...hopefully she makes it home safe and better then ever within a day or so because the weather is just great here and im going to be missing her dearly
Yeah it happened to me. I got the wheel unlocked and ordered the CLB and will install it the day it arrives. Good luck with your car. I had the recall done twice by Chevy and it still locks up. Get the CLB for $50.00 and don't worry about it again. -Ed
and for the column lock thing i thought it was just a major concern for the A4s and not so much for the 6spds
Uhhhhh...you haven't been doing your homework. They discontinued the column lock in the A4 for a few years already, only the older A4's and 6 speeds have them. Have you not seen all the threads about the column lock, CLB and the useless recall for 6 speeds? All you people who think it wont happen to you, you have been warned. I feel very little sympathy for you.
I hope you don't get stuck with a large bill. The dealer said my lock actuator failed and wont unlock, so I had to buy a new one + labor+ towing+tax=$500!
