I have taken it to the dealer twice for the recall. I have a 2000 A4. While the column no longer locks, last week I got stuck, the car wouldn't move far, with my engine getting cut off and I got the message " Service Column Lock".
First if this happens on the road, What is the way I get around this and get my car started ?
Second How do I keep this from happening again ? The dealer said they applied all of the fixes according to the recall from GM and there was nothing else they could do. Would the CLB definitely take care of this or is there something deeper wrong ?
Oh and what fuses should I remove that will prevent this ?
I believe this is a case of a defective wiring harness that they used to perform the automatic version of the recall. I believe they call it a K harness. Can someone confirm this?
If this is the case, I would expect that they would replace it again due to the recall.

I have exactly the same problem as Mixman. I started a thread to that effect Monday and finally got something from the dealer. They faxed me a copy of the Repir Order and the part # for the harness kit they used is #89023816. The part # referenced is the TSB is #88952427. They still tell me that the column lock actuator has to be replaced and I keep telling them that the actuator should be completely bypassed and no longer even function!
Just for the record someone confirm for me that after Harness K is installed, a working and functional Harness K anyway, the actuator should not even be an issue. It should be completely bypassed and it should not matter if the actuator is even there or not. Am I correct on this?
Took the car back to the dealer today. They said they would install a new lock actuator motor. I tried pulling fuses, but I got the "Pull key and wait 10 seconds message." last night, so back it goes. At this point I think they are just reaching for solutions.

They are going to charge you for that actuator if you car is out of warranty. Yes, they are reaching for solutions. My dealer is doing the same thing!
I have an extended warranty, but they better not even use that. This is totally recall oriented.
If they don't fix this thing soon I will see if I can invoke the lemon law on my car with GM. At some point I will loose trust that I have a reliable car. Also this is a recall and the solutions they have tried thus far have not worked. I don't have the time to run to my dealer every other day to fix this.

You are preaching to the choir! I have had nothing but problems since I bought mine several years ago. As soon as it's fixed it's getting sold. I'm also trading my Tahoe which I have had an equal amount of problems with. As far as GM vehicles, I'm done with them forever!
I have a 2000 A4 I had the recall compelted and just wondered if the wheel should still lock normally with the engine off and the key out? I just want tobe sure the dealer did the right fix. Thanks
