for those of you who have a 6 spd hurst shifter, would you recommed it? i'm looking at getting one, but i've been reading where B&M shifters are really stiff, and i was curious if hurst were the same way. and if i do buy one, does it come with everything i need to install it? or will i need to buy anything else separately? thanks.
I would say a very high majority, over 95% of posts I've read from Hurst owners favor the shifter.
Ya' can't please everyone so, you'll occasionally see posts from people who changed them out.
I like the shorter throw.
If you continue to use the stock shift **** after the install then you can even shorten its height which will translate to even shorter throw feel) by following this easy modification: See post #6 in this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1098283
This mod works on stock shifter as well giving a slight shorter-throw feeling.
Without a doubt, probably my most favorite modification. I hated the factory shifter (too mushy). The Hurst makes for very positive/crisp shifts. I did the same mod on my previous '96 Vette. It is the shifter that GM should have installed at the factory!!

Comes with everything you need except a new **** if you want one. The factory **** works. I haven't actually driven a Vette with a B&M, but I've sat in one and ran one through the gears. I think the Hurst (which I have) is considerably firmer. The Hurst also comes with adjustments for side to side tension, though I left mine as it came from the factory which may be one reason it's so firm.
Don't think you could go wrong with either. BTW do not make the mistake of comparing Hurst and B&M in Fbody applications. I had both in Fbodies and the B&M was far more firm on them. Just the opposite on the Vette.
The C6 shifter is getting some good comments too. You might do a search for that.
I agree with everything said so far. If you DON'T want a race car feel, then avoid the Hurst. Personally, that's EXACTLY what I wanted and got! I can't speak for the other aftermarket shifters.
On the 02z06 I picked up, it came with a hurst shifter but the shifter makes a rattling noise once past 2500rpm, i thought it might as been the **** so I took it off and drove with it and still, it's making the noise. Is there an adjustment or tech tip to make it go away or is this normal?

People have used everything from tennis ***** to rubber tubes to squelch the vibration. Patches came up with a good solution for his Hurst. You might want to IM him.
Regarding shifters, the BPP is the only one I know that is configurable to virtually anyone's physique. Like a Hurst, it is a bit stiff, but I enjoy it very much.

Are there other aftermarket shifters that don't produce this rattling noise? for a daily driver, it's a bit much.
I have a hurst with a flameball shift ****. I have a c4 , but I think it would look good in any car. see "my photos" for pic. The site for the shifter is: www.flameball.com.
I tried out the Hurst in a friend's car and thought it was too stiff. I like to move the shifter back and forth in neutral as I come to a stop and it was much much much more difficult to do that with the Hurst. Did it have awesome positive shfts...YES. Did it have nice short throws...YES. Would it be great for racing...YES. Is it stiff...YES! My car is a daily driver and it would not have worked for me.
Have you seen anyone's shortened stock shifter? I tried out a friend's (Max01GreenMachine) 1" shorter shifter and it felt great in his car. I went to his house and the surgery took about an hour. The hardest part was removing the stock **** without hurting anything. The shifter feels totally different! The throw is much shorter, but not as short as the Hurst. It is a tiny bit harder to shift, but the 2 to 3 shift is much improved. I would HIGHLY recommend cutting your shifter down first and see if you like it. It has been my best mod yet, and it is FREE! You can always put a Hurst in later.

Hey SeaLawyer, If you are still going Sunday, I would like to feel what your shifter is like. I've been kicking around the ideal about throwing a new shifter in my car. thanks
