Help...driver's side rear view mirror!

Help...driver's side rear view mirror!
I took a short road trip last weekend, returned and detailed the car.This afternoon I was going to take a ride around town and found that the driver's side rear view mirror is just "loose". No spring action at all!!!!
What the heck is this about?
The power mirror function works, but the mirror itself won't stay in place.
I would appreciate any helpful corrective suggestions before I begin taking the door apart.

this happened to my pass side mirror. Took it apart and found that the spring had broken. What sucks is that the wiring is routed through the middle of the spring 
so its a pita to unplug everything... so i just made my mirror perminantly fixed to the door... lol
