Rear : 6.5inches and make sure that the replacements are shallow
Front 3.5 inch tweeter and 8inch subwoofer
However; a direct replacement 8inch subwoofer will not fit. In fact, you will either have to fabricate a speaker template (see pic) or buy one (a couple of forum members make them - see Audio section for details)
So, with the rear I can put in a regular thin-well 3-way speaker...?
Its a 1998...
thanks
If your 98's rear speakers are the same as a 2001's, then they're not 6.5". They're actually 6.75", and I put a pair in my 2001. You have to be careful in your speaker selection, as the left side speaker location is very shallow due to the fuel filler.
Actually, I wouldn't bother spending the money, as the stock radio just doesn't have the "horsepower" or equalization to really drive a good speaker that's placed in the rear. I had a pair of 6.75", 3-way Kenwoods that I briefly used in another car, so I wasn't out any money. If I had purchased them specifically for my 'Vette, however, I would have been greatly disappointed, as the difference in sound is so slight.
For the front couldn't I just put in the 3.5" tweeter and remove the 8'' woofer if I put a sub in the back?
How would I install 6.5'' components and tweeters (or coaxial) in the front if I wanted to do that? What template (or adapter) would I need?
Could someone please answer this guy's question? I'm in the same situation. I put a sub in the trunk but the highs are terrible so I'm looking to replace the front speakers but don't know what to replace them with.
