Check out the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals. I put a set on the Z and did the roadcourse at Nashville Speedway a couple of weeks ago. They are not track tires, of course, but very little noise, gripped very well for street tire and did not cup. I hate a tire that cups out and vibrates down the interstate (a la Michelin). I am happy with 'em and especially considering the price of less than $650 a set.
Someone else would be bound to mention it but the Nitto 555R IIs are pretty awesome. 275/40/17 in front and 305/35/18 in back fit perfect. In my case they cost less than the OEMs. IMHO there is little comparison to the Supercars in terms dry road traction. The Nittos hook "hard". For comparison purposes, when I floored-it at 40 MPH or so in second gear with the Supercars on the highway beside my house, I would do a veritable burn-out, now the front-end rears-up and it just hooks and launches, no tire spin at all. Straight line acceleration is probably not as good as a drag-slick but the side-walls are stiffer and should make them a better Auto-X tire. Tread wear rating is 100 so I expect no more than 10K miles from them.
everyone has their opinions, but I ran my Z at the Pocono's in march in the rain, and my original Goodyear SCF1's held in the downpour, water standing on the track on Saturday, and on Sunday 39* track temp and blowing snow, the tires held fine. I'm going back with the Goodyears.

GYSCs for my everyday rims and track rims. Great grip, predictable give up point and fine rain performance if you drive within the posted limits. I don't need to do 90 in the rain. thx
Does anyone have experience with alternative tires to the Eagle F1's which are not in-stock at Goodyear? What about the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's?
I just put those on my '68... They are awesome! They brought the car to a whole new level. And that was only with the front wheels.
I had Kuhmo's max performance tires before, and I wasn't crazy about them. I considered F1 supercar tires but two local shops didn't think very highly of them.
I did a search on the Pilot Sport PS2 and found an article on a bunch of high end tuner cars about 8 out of 10 had Pilot sports or PS2.
Dick Guldstrand is among the best suspension tuners and he always uses Michelin's on his cars.
I can't give a very thorough review of min yet, but so far I am very pleased. The reviews on TireRack seem to be what I am experiencing.
They aren't cheap, but they aren't much more than anything else you'd ever put on your car.

If you don't mount the F1s, get the Michelin. They are outstanding tires. If you decide at some point to sell the car - you'd best have one of those two on there. Any Corvette nut worth his salt will look at the tires and if they are Kumho, Toyo, etc., he's going to be asking himself what else on the car you didn't have the money to keep up.
Toyo Proxes T1S's have been great. Rain traction was far better that the stock goodyears and I didn't notice a reduction in dry grip, though you would probably see some on the track.
Because they offer better handling in real world, everyday driving conditions and they were designed in 2005, not 2001 like the Goodyears. I am new to the world of Z06, but I am not new to the World. I also believe the new design will be superior to the T1-S's with the addition of the traction blocks at the outside. I bought these tires to USE, not for resale ! Maybe I'll replace them with some mo 'spensive treads when I get ready to sell her, but for now, I'm gonna enjoy
Ummm, it wasn't about money. It was about ride quality, grip, and allweather saftey. I can't speak for Michelin but after the second time I Hydroplaned ( I was only going 55 or 60 mph ) on my way to atlanta I took those tires off. I only had 10k on them. I shopped around and my buddy who works at the Chevy dealer her ein Columbus GA recommended them. He was running the same tires on his vettes an so are some of the other guys in the club down here. Maybe we arn't worth a salt but I like to stay straight on the road when I want to.

tires are all relative to what you want. I disagree if you have a tire other than f1 or mich someone will wonder what else you cheapned on, maybe some people just don't like to waste money on tires they don't like, many like kuhmos, toyos for reasons other than cost, nuff said.

About 1300 miles ago, I purchased a set of PS2's....the ride is quieter than the GY SC's. The PS2's feel like meat hooks. My GY SC's lasted a little over 13,000 miles.

F1's are a great tire, respond instantly and are like glue. Like any tire of this type, loss of traction is expected in colder temps. What I am surprised at is the longevity of the treadware. I figured 20K max and done. These tires seem to be good for 25 to 30 K miles. If there are more expensive which they are but give you this treadware, do they really cost more per mile? Jury is still out on that one.
