Default Fred Beans S&H: Disappointing

Since I know they're a supporting vendor I'll just keep it to the facts here. I went to place an order with Fred Beans because I've always felt their advertised prices were competitive, and they're a forum vendor.

Unfortunately, I have to say their S&H charges were even higher than gmpartsdirect, who are known for being pretty high.

C6 Shifter **** and Bolt: S&H $12.5 (a 1-2lb package at best)

Single Rear D/S Rotor: S&H ~$25 (ONE rotor)

They said their shipping costs were calculated by weight.

I know shipping isn't nearly that expensive. How much 'handling' are they doing over there?

**For those who think I don't understand what S&H costs, here are the exact S&H costs from Fred Beans (19468) to my zip code (46202) for the packages described.

Single D/S Rotor (have one laying here):
19lb, 4oz In Box 16"x16" box
- USPS: $11.98 (to my door)
- Fedex: $8.67
- UPS: $11.51

Shifter Handle
est 1lb 5"x5"x5" box
- USPS: $3.75
- Fedex: $5.93
- UPS: $7.04

I don't think you can argue that.

Does seem high, but I know UPS takes you to the cleaners every time you ship with them.

Actually, shipping costs are calculated by weight/measure/distance. Why do I know this???? I've been in transportation/world wide logistics for 12 years!

I looked these things up with all three USPS, FedEx, UPS. Their fees aren't even close to what Fred Beans was asking.

(unless they use overnight or some other pricier service)

Some folks claim they include in shipping the price of packaging materials, boxes, tape, etc. As fuel continues upward so will shipping prices.

Question for you...

Have you ever shipped a rotor? Anyway... we told you 28.50 for everything. I can and have paid up to 15 dollars per rotor. We've shipped rotors to every state in the country and let me tell you when I offer discounts at 40 shipping per set I'm, at times, eating 15-25 per the set.

Shipping cost of rotors will always make or break a sale.

The shipping costs today are pretty damn sad. With the soaring fuel costs, you'll also notice that the shippers are imposing a fuel surcharge on all shipments. I agree that it's a drag to pay these shipping charges, but it's not Fred Beans Chevrolet, or Gene that's making the shipping rates so high. It's the shippers and the economy.

I have always gotten good service with FredBeans (many times I get the item the next day or 2 delivered) and never thought that I was paying too much for shipping. Must be a good reason the shipping costs are so high.

Did you call them and ask about the cost of shipping?

Hey, some people on Ebay give you free shipping, some offer really low BIN prices but charge high shipping. Here's the bottom line, how much does something cost by the time it's at your doorstep?? That's the main thing you should be concerned with. Compare whatever deals are out there, & go with the one that arrives to you at the lowest price. If you want to throw in customer service, return policies, or whatever, then it gets harder to directly compare, but if it's your money that you are spending, don't complain about the cost after you get it, figure out the cost before you decide to order it!

Shipping seems to take all the "good" out of good deals. I bought the brake light red letters for the rear of the car $10.00 shipping and they fit in a legal envelope. The only thing that got $10.00 worth of handling was me. And with out a kiss!!

I don't think this should be directed towards Fred Beans. They sell the parts, I doubt they're making anything on the shipping. Just my $.02

Gene,

First let me say that you guys are top notch in my book. All dealings with you and your team have been straight up and the customer service is top notch. I have even had a time or two where you or your techs have taken the time to give me tech. information when I needed it, regardless of how long it took out of your day or how much it was costing you in down time to be on the phone with me.

Having said that, shipping is a "cost of doing business" It should be what it is, nothing more. Now I'm not just talking about postage here.

What does it cost to ship in postage and packing materials is what we would expect to pay... It is not something that you should expect to make money on in my humble opinion.

I will always continue to order from you because of the exceptional customer service you have always offered. I will pay the little extra it costs to do business with you in regards to shipping as a trade off to the level of service you give, but it is kind of a little let down to the over all experience...

Just my .02

Peace
Willfulone

- Fedex: $5.93
- UPS: $7.04
**Fred Beans: $12.50

I don't think you can argue that. Only UPS even reaches HALF of the cost on one package that Fred Beans is charging. Sounds like DHL would cost even less.

This is not personal on my end, but the fact is they are overcharging.

I have done business with Fred Beans twice now. One time for a complete front/rear pads/rotors for my car. That box was HEAVY!!! I actually thought there shipping charges were decent considering how much the box weighed.

They don't advertise their S&H. And I did decide not to buy the rotor after figuring their S&H out. I even asked them to speak with their manager to make sure that they're not willing to charge actual S&H. They were unwilling to budge.

My first set of rotors was through gmpartsdirect (same rotors). Even with their rep of S&H overcharging, it was much cheaper than the prices above.

Gene, I think my post above proved that if I was to ship a rotor from you to mew it SHOULD cost $8-$12. Not $25-$28. Possibly it was an error on the part of the guy I spoke to, he seemed to have a tough time with the math?
