Sorry if this is repeating: had our driveway replaced and now an additional dip causes the brief "scritching" noise of the plastic spoiler underneath. I understand it must have the function of aiding a smoother airflow....how valuable is it? Could I remove it without noticeable change?

Live with the "scritching" It channels air onto the radiator

It scoops air into the radiator, so the car will overheat without it. Also, it adds some downforce at higher speeds.

Do not remove. It is a must for cooling, so I read here.

It is not a must for cooling there are people that take them off. Steve (fixed roof) doesn't has it on his car 2 low and just scraped everywhere and hasn't had a problem in over a year. This is sitting in orlando traffic aswell as a trip to kentucky.

The scraping will not hurt the air dam, it is designed to flex. Occasionaly you'll see strings of the air dam material dangling, just pull it, it comes off easily. This common on all C5's.

I "scritch" every time I enter/leave my drive way. It flexes/bends.... no worries!!

Yep, scraping the front airdam is part of the charm of owning a C5!

Leave it alone......

It is about a $80.00 tops for L,R,&C air dam. Don't worry about it and replace them when they are worn out.

I believe several people have taken the two side pieces off without problems, but you have to leave the center piece.

Eventually the scrapping will stop as you'll have it "sanded down" so to speak!
