I'm considering doing a weighted shift **** with C5 shift pattern. Because the "weight" will be solid brass, the color of the **** may have to be very dark. In this conceptual image, I made the outside dark blue, but because the brass is somewhat yellow, a greenish tint is the result. Of course, black will be an option. I calculate approx. 400 grams as the **** weight.
Is that a symmetrical shape, or is it more of a pistol-grip?
Gotta be symmetric!
Actually, it's more of a pistol-grip shape. For overhand shifting, a symmetrical ball shape or a T-handle like Stu's is great. For short-throw shifters, such as the Hurst, BPP, etc, a shape such as this one feels just right, IMO.
Will it sit at about the same height as the stock **** on the stock shifter?
It sits about 1/4-inch higher to allow room for the locking collar. Cutting and extending the thread of a stock shifter will allow it to sit even lower.
I like it...but I think you have hit on the importance of the shift ****...
...its not all about shape...
its about weight...
thus the T-Shifter...the weight makes the shift like butter...
You're absolutely correct, Stu. My goal was to combine the high-density, free-machinability of brass with the insulation of polyurethane. Still, I really enjoy the non-weighted translucent ***** that look exactly like colored glass!
