The driver’s side headlight occasionally will not pop-up. At first, I thought it was the motor or gear, after searching this forum of course! However, while poking around and looking at the motor I noticed that the **** to raise the headlight was very tight. Upon loosening it, the headlight came up just fine but after a few cycles, it tightens up again. As long as I occasionally loosen the ****, it continues to work. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to correct it? Thanks.
I don't have a solution but my passenger side headlight is doing the exact same thing. When it doesn't open I turn the manual **** a little to loosen it then the headlight works fine......???
If you find that you need a motor for your driver headlight...I have one. PM me for price if interested. I've had no problems with it. It's from a 2000 barely driven at night.
Perhaps one of the teeth on your gear is stripped or broken, and when you manually move it a bit, it allows the motor to catch the next tooth of the gear. The weight of the headlight hitting bottom when you turn it off probably moves the **** slowly back to its lowest setting.
Just a guess....
That's so freaky... my car just started doing the exact same thing last night. It seems to be OK for 5 or 6 up/down cycles before the manual **** tightens up again. Hopefully someone will post a solution.
Does it make any noise when it raises or lowers? Obviously the **** spins when they move up and down, and when my motor started to go out, the **** would sometimes over rotate and get stuck. Turns out it was because the cheap plastic gears were striped and the rubber bushings were so shot I had to replace the entire acutator. Again this was just my experience. Good Luck

No there isn't any obvious noise, it sounds just like the passenger side.

I had the same problem. I don't know the cause, but the dealer replaced both actuator assemblies under warranty. I think that the worn gears allow the shaft to over rotate thus tightening the ****.
