Default Advice On Exhaust Systems

I am looking to replace my 2001 factory exhaust.

I am looking for a system with a louder, better sound while driving around town, but without the interior drone at highway speeds . Several members of my local vett club have the Corsa Touring or Indy systems and they sound good, but I want somthing a little louder.

Right now I am looking at the Borla Stinger or the GHL Magum exhaust systems. Please give me you opinons/suggestions

I had the GHLs on mine as one of my first mods. Without headers, cam, or head work the car sounded great. It was loud at WOT and upon decel it popped a bit. There was no interior noise at all during crusing sppeds.

Of course now it just sounds mean with all the work done to it.

Here is the vid if you have not heard a car with GHLs, kooks headers, RT high flow cats, G5X3 Cam, and AFR Heads (just to give you an idea if you plan on going that way one day)

You cannot go wrong with the GHL Magnum Plus. Everything you just descibed holds true to this system

I've got the Corsa Pace Car Tigersharks, and they have a nice sound. I don't know how they compare to the Indies, but you get no resonance at cruise and they sound great with a little throttle.

I do not plan on putting the X pipe on for some time or other mods and I kind of like the popping sound upon decelleration

Does anyone know the sound difference between The Magnum plus that has the 6" mufflers and the standard Magnum Series with the 5" mufflers? I do like the look of a four tip compaired to the two tip units.

I've got the GHLs and I think the larger can helps reduce resonance. Can't go wrong with GHL.

Your system sounds sick! Big difference with the headers and cam mods.

I have Borla Stingers and I love them. I have a 6 speed so I can control the highway drone which I actually like, besides I didn't buy this car to use the cruise control. I am actually thinking of going for headers and high flow cats to make it louder. IMHO, if you want a loud exhaust, you are going to have interior drone. Of the three systems you mentioned on an otherwise stock system, the GHL will be just as loud as Borla with about the same tone and Corsa will be much quieter with a more exotic tone at WOT. The best advice anyone can give you is to go out and listen to them all before you buy! I did and I am very happy with my choice...
BTW, did I mention that Stingers were voted most popular cat back exhaust on this forum!!! Check out my poll! he he he

The full name of this exhaust is Indy Pace Car. It's the same exhaust.

GHL Bullets = (same as Magnum Plus but w/ 4 tips)

I have heard the GHL's and that is probably what you want based on what you have said. The Stingers would be good., but they do drone. Go and listen in person at a local show are something, this is the only sure way you can really hear inside the car and outside if you like the exhaust or not.

Good luck

You are right, the sound chips from the manufactors all sound very close . I have only seen and herd the cosa systems up close and at w.o.t. they all sound great, but too quiet at idle for me.

Thanks, you have given me much to ponder over. There is a dealer who has the stingers on sale, and the whole system is about 10 pounds lighter than the others.

There is a distinct difference in sound between the Borlas and GHLs. Listen here to see what I mean:

http://thx2.net/exhaust.htm

You'll notice this difference particularly at idle. Of course, driving an aftermarket exhaust-equipped C5 is the best way to tell whether you'll like the sound from the inside, but the clips in the site listed are very close in sound to what you'd hear from the outside of the vehicle.

With the top down, I guess the drone would probably be ok with the stingers. However, on longer trips with the top up I do not want to end up with a headache Thanks for the info .

Thanks, in my opinion the stingers sound better on the chips, but as you said, I wish someone near me had them so I could hear them from inside the car.
