Now .... for those up us that know about the nylon gear that wears out and no telling how many don't know of the $40 fix, they spend $$$ hundreds $$$ on 'replacement' motors as they have been told by the Stealerships it needs a whole new motor assembly. Then thinking it's trash they keep it as a prime example of the "Corvette Tax" item, then low and behold, a savior appears! Ecklers will by that worn out, no good burned up (hah) assembly and even pay you up to $100 for it!
Then, they put a new gear in it and re-sell it for hundreds. What a scam........ One more reason I have not nor will I ever do business with Ecklers.
OK...Bring on the pro-Ecklers bashers - I can take it.
Sometimes the motor goes out.. as did on my C4. It's the same motor setup. It had a "weak" spot in the motor.. I disassembled it and all.. It needed a motor.. Gear was PERFECT! and so were those bushings that are the "install a CLB" of the C4 world.. "change the bushings" "change the bushings".. heard that 300 million times.. lol..

Welcome to corporate America. In this case, you may know the fix, and are (almost) doing well to advise others of it.
When your refirigerator, A'C, computer, stereo, or anything else needs repair, you will likely be in the same situation, but may not be in this position to know how to repair it yourself, no matter how easy, cheap and simple the actual repair may be. Making an example of someone just because they offer that service is silly.
If you posted this for the intent of helping people save money, then help them, and post the how-to procedure of changing the headlight gear.
Don't blame the people that do this as a service. The people that do have old headlight motor cores laying around just may enjoy making that $100 that was taking up room in their closet or garage.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
IMHO, it borders on deceptive or at best, misleading intent. It is implied that the motors are burned up and worthless. Their escape clause as quoted:
Once received we will evaluate the condition of the motor and pay you as shown below for motors in rebuildable condition
This does not even involve the conditon of the motor. They already know that. Guaranteed -if the motor won't turn, you get NOHTING for it, and I'd bet very few would actually ever see $100 per unit.
And, the retail customer (maybe the next email solicitation) who buys it from them is NOT getting a "re-built motor or "re-conditioned" or 'factory re-manf' unit. They are getting a spray painted looks-like-new assembly with absolutely no way of knowing how many cycles that particular motor has had on it.
It's not that what they are doing isn't a 'service' to those who in fact did get bent-over once, in a round about way, they, or others, are or could be getting it again!
At best, it's DECEPTIVE... and yes, I've probably been taken to the cleaners on something I didn't know anything about and it may be so pervasive that "Corporate America" is laughing it's way to the bank, far more so than many suspect.
and now I wonder if they even understand how much we "talk" to each other???????? and if I were to just take a guess I think this can't be good P.R.
Got to agree, if I had any laying around the garage I would send them in. Better then trying to sell them on EBay
"REBUILT" assembly
Take another look:
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...JTQC4Q0J664XUB
Or this one:
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...JTQC4Q0J664XUB
Do they say WHO it was rebuilt by? Nope! Do they say what PART was rebuilt? YES they do! They say "REBUILT HEADLIGHT MOTOR"
Now, there is the
Not only do they rape you on the motor/assembly, you have to pay a 'core charge' and send them your old one after the swap! Your cost? $130 plus shipping (two ways).
For comparison... how about GM PARTS DIRECT Enter Part Number 16523917 - go to Checkout to see the price (I'll save you the effort - It's around $130.28 shipped and says nothing about a core charge or return of the old unit.
I'm blind but I can see!
OK Off

I wonder How many people will really get the full $100.00? This whole thing shouts RIP-OFF!
No one is twisting your arm and forcing you to participate. It's your choice and if I had any broken assembly laying around that I could not repair, I might consider mailing them in rather than placing them in the weekly trash pickup.
One man's trash is anothers treasure.
