A club member just used Jiffy Lube for an oil change. 300 miles ... one of our other members was on a cruize with him and saw him smoking.
He found that his drain plug was just hanging on by the last two threads!!!!

I did the transmission and rearend fluid at the time of the clutch install. It was a breeze to do since everything was out of the car

Took mine to the dealer for an oil change in March and asked them to look at the trans fluid level because it was shifting harder (6-sp). They called and said I should change the differential fluid ($180.) because I had over 50k miles on it (2000 Vert). I told them to go ahead. They put the wrong fluid in it and I caught it when I looked at the invoice and asked where the limited slip additive was on the invoice. They said the part number was for a "kit" that included everything (silicone differential oil and the additive). I left and checked the part number when I got home. It was for regular gear oil - not synthetic and not the additive). I called the Service Dept the next day and told them what I had found and they said it was done correctly and the invoice was wrong. Two months later the differential started making snapping noises and you could feel the clutchs catching and releasing on slow corners. I called the dealer back and they said they would replace the fluid for free with the correct stuff, including the additive. When I picked it up the second time I asked what would happen if the differential goes out later because they put the wrong fluid in during the service in March. They said it was ok and wouldn't happen.
The beginning of this month I took another long trip (and got the rear end good and warm) and the differential was worse than before, so much so I wasn't sure it would make it home. I took it back to the service rep and he said they would look at it. Sure enough, the clutch packs were ruined. They replaced the packs at their cost.

Although I was happy that they stood behind their screw-up, I still think it was a really stupid mistake for the "Corvette specialist" at the dealer's service department to do in the first place. I am also now smarter and, after looking at the Service Manuals for the car, I find that it recommends that no service interval is needed for the differential fluid. I should have looked before I told them to go ahead.

Its been my experience that some quick oil change places are not run well and other are. Just like any other business.

We happen to have a good one by us. Our Accord(s) has been serviced by the same Jiffy Lube for 3 years without a problem and I've even brought the Vette there once with my own oil when I hurt my back.
