Default Halltech On... I LIKE IT!!

Well, just threw my Stinger on... it took me longer than most would take, but I did it step by step and carefully, so as not to screw anything up... I started it up.. and heard that little buzzzzzz... from my Z suckin in air... She breaths a lot easier now... here is the final outcome... (I know I know, engine is dirty ... I will get to that later!):

I've got one of those. What year is your Z? Mine is a 02. I've been geting lean codes every 2 weeks or so. I have yet to figure out what to do to make it go away and stay away. Halltech website says you can send them your ECU and they can reprogram the air/fuel curve for the filter. Other than that, it's awesome!!!

Mine is also an 02... I was wondering about codes I might get.. I just drove it for the first time.. didn't get anything... I will see.....

It seems like its got better throttle response in the higher gears... in 3/4/5/6th gears at about 2500-3000 RPM, I can tap it and it gives me a good lunge...

Though I never really drove it crazy to notice much of a difference..

The only thing I don't like about it is the boring ol' "Halltech" logo on it... I want to put a C5 decal there... i'm sure they're out there to find..

It takes about 4 full driving cycles for the code to pop up. It turns on and off. It can be annoying. Hope you have better luck than me.

Do only Z's throw lean codes? I put in the haltech on my car almost a year ago and have never gotten any codes. Mine is not a Z though so could that have anything to do with it?

They stopped putting screens in the MAF after 01 i think. I think that could be why.

the screens help solve the problem by smooting out the turbulance. some people say cutting a small 3 inch hole below where the filter area is also solves the problem.

This is certainly one of the reasons. A good LS-Edit tune will most likely take care of the any lean conditions.

Why didn't you put in the TRAP. It has an additional piece that places the filter down out of the engine bay for cooler air induction thru the fog
lamp openings.

Idle relearn after intake mods to eliminate error codes........Follow these procedures EXACTLY or you will have to start from scratch.

1. Insert key into ignition and turn to the "On" position but, DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
2. Pop open the engine fuse block box cover and remove the two 10amp fuses from position numbers 16 & 23.
3. Your DIC will now display "check" messages for ABS, etc...
4. Turn ignition to the "Off" position.
5. Re-insert both 10amp fuses for positions 16 & 23.
6. Start your engine
7. Allow engine coolant temperature to reach a minimum of 176 degrees F and run at this minimum temperature for at least 5 minutes.
8. Shut down engine
9. Let rest for a minimum of 30 seconds.
10. Restart engine - check for DIC error codes (there should be none).
11. Drive car for a minimum of 30 miles at varying rpm settings and speeds. PCM will now re-learn and adjust for the new air flow and air temperature at the intake.

Good luck,
Jennifer

PS: Oh Yeah, I have a Halltach intake filter and airbridge too and really like it. We ran it with the 'learning' procedure above and had no codes develop. More recently we did an LS-1 Edit install by Steve Heino at McGee's here in Oregon..WOW

...just so there's no confusion....We're talking about lean codes in 2002-2004 Z06s, not coupes or verts. These Z06s have MAFs that do not have screens. The MAF screen converts turbulent to laminar flow, but also slows down the flow rate somewhat. The lean conditions can be resolved by having your Z tuned. Idle relearn is effective if you want to speed up the learning process after installing an aftermarket intake in a coupe or vert (or 01 Z), but the 02-04 Z06 will probably still need a tune.

Howie,

The TRAP is no longer sold by Halltech (If my memory serves me right). Its popularity waned when the Stinger was introduced at a price that was $200 less expensive than the TRAP. Bang-for-buck, the Stinger is tough to beat!

I also like the Halltech Stinger. I did not have any codes, not a Z OHH 6 though.

Thanks for the post! My Halltech has been in the box for a long time, but I was waiting to get a baseline dyno before I put it on. Now that I have the dyno numbers I am ready to install it as soon as I have the time.

I participated in a dyno day at Synergy Motorsports in Fremont last weekend and did 3 runs on their Dynopack. The owner, Rick, told me that he could get more hp out of the car even though it is still stock...this is mainly because they don't come tuned for the 91 octane we have to run here in CA. I will probably get a tune after I put the Halltech in and am looking forward to seeing how the car responds to it.

Nice to hear that you can feel the results.

About $250 reasons... It looks cool, and I'm sure sucks in cooler air, but too much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm having trouble noticing any difference in performance.. does it really add any horse power? And how about gas mileage... I would think that if its drawing more air in, and cooler air, that it would get better mileage, baring I don't drive it any harder..

I like my Halltech stinger also, no codes just noticeable power increase,
be patient it takes a few days (first night I wasn't impressed car was rich,a little sluggish) for max effect, for the car to learn all gears and rpms with the air increase from the halltech.
